Introduction Kinds of environmental pollution Effect of environmental pollution Causes of environmental pollution Prevention of environmental pollution

INTRODUCTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

Our environment is a major aspect of our life today. Many of us don't take our Earth seriously and think that as long as pollution doesn't hurt them they can go ahead and throw garbage on the ground or spill oil down the drain. Well to many people have that theory and they are killing off our Earth and also physically harming themselves from the air they breath and the water they swim in. Our Earth is fragile like a human and people don't know.

DEFINITION OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

Environmental pollution is the build-up and concentration of toxic levels of chemicals in the air, water, and land, which reduces the ability of the affected area to support life. Pollutants may be gaseous- ozone and carbon monoxide, for example; liquid discharge from industrial plants and sewage systems; or solid-landfills and junkyards.

KINDS OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

There are actually SEVEN different kinds of environmental pollution. Most people can name them are;

o Air pollutiono Land pollutiono Water pollutiono Noise pollutiono Light pollutiono Thermal pollutiono Visual pollution

Listed below are each kind and examples to help you understand just how we can affect the environment and each other.

AIR POLLUTION DEFINITION;AIR POLLUTION IS THE CONTAMINATION OF AIR BY SMOKE AND HARMFUL GASES, MAINLY OXIDES OF

CARBON, SULFUR, AND NITROGEN.

EXAMPLE OF AIR POLLUTION

Some examples of air pollution include: Exhaust fumes from vehicles The burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil or gas Harmful off- gasing from things such as paint, plastic

production and so on Radiation spills or nuclear accidents Air pollution is linked to asthma, allergies and other

respiratory illnesses.

CAUSES OF AIR POLLUTION

Major sources of air pollution are;o Industrieso Smokeo Misto Carbon blacko Aerosolso Dusto Automobiles and domestic fuelo High proportion of undesirable gases

EFFECT OF AIR POLLUTION

Air pollution effect? Human health Animal Plants The atmosphere Global warming Acids rains Ozone depletion Various respairatly illness

PREVENTION OF AIR POLLUTION

Air pollution prevention? Local controls Dark smoke Boilers and furnaces

EXAMPLE OF LIGHT POLLUTION;

Some examples of what causes light pollution: Street lamps that shine light in all directions, instead of

with a hood to point light downward toward the street. Unnecessary lights, especially around the home

Light pollution uses more energy (by shining more light up instead of down), may affect human health and our sleep cycles and most importantly, corrupts our kids telescopes and their curiosity.

LAND POLLUTION DEFINITION;

Land pollution is the degradation of the Earth's surface caused by a misuse of resources and improper disposal of waste.

EXAMPLE OF LAND POLLUTION

Some examples of land pollution include: Litter found on the side of the road Illegal dumping in natural habitats Oil spills that happen inland The use of pesticides and other farming chemicals Damage and debris caused from unsustainable

mining and logging practices Radiation spills or nuclear accidents

CAUSES OF LAND POLLUTION

Four main causes of land pollution are Construction Agriculture Domestic waste Industrial waste

EFFECT OF LAND POLLUTION

These are the effect of land pollution; The land cannot used to built houses Man cannot farming Ground water will get effected Death of the animal that inhabit the land

PREVENTION OF LAND POLLUTION

Good agriculture practice Trees should be planted everywhere Waste matter should be disposed immediately Remediation of polluted soils Avoid using more fertilizers prevention of erosion and silting

WATER POLLUTION DEFINITION;

Water pollution is the contamination of any body of water (lakes, groundwater, oceans, etc)

EXAMPLE OF WATER POLLUTION

Some examples of water pollution: Raw sewage running into lake or streams Industrial waste spills contaminating groundwater Radiation spills or nuclear accidents Illegal dumping of substances, or items in bodies of

water Biological contamination, such as bacteria growth

CAUSES OF WATER POLLUTION

Agriculture waste water Oil spills Mining Trash on common roads Refineries Industries process Natural factors effect ground water

EFFECT OF WATER POLLUTION; Malaria Diseases like cholera Typhoid (spread during the rainy season) Aquatic life gets destroyed

PREVENTION OF WATER POLLUTION;

Factories should not throw there waste in water bodies

People should not bath and wash clothes in rivers and lakes

People should not take there animal to take bath in rivers or lakes

NOISE POLLUTION DEFINITION

Noise pollution is any loud sounds that are either harmful or annoying to humans and animals.

EXAMPLE OF NOISE POLLUTION

Some examples of noise pollution: Airplanes, helicopters and motor vehicles Construction or demolition noise Human activities such as sporting events or

concerts

CAUSES OF NOISE POLLUTION

Traffic noise Air craft noise Noise from construction Noise from the industries Noise from the other sources

EFFECT OF NOISE POLLUTION

Herring loss Stress High blood pressure Sleep disturbance Colour blindness

EFFECT OF NOISE POLLUTION

PREVENTION OF NOISE POLLUTION

Pleasant home We need to talk sweetly to other Talk less more work Sound effect of ears so loud noise should be avoided Bhagvan baba says that ‘’ silent is god’’

THERMAL POLLUTION DEFINITION;

Thermal pollution is the increase of temperature caused by human activity.

EXAMPLE OF THERMAL POLLUTION

Warmer lake water from nearby manufacturing (using cool water to cool the plant and then pump it back into the lake)

Included in thermal pollution should also be the increase in temperatures in areas with lots of concrete or vehicles, generally in cities

CAUSES OF THERMAL POLLUTION

Nuclear power plants Coal fired power plants Industrial effluents Domestic sewage

EFFECT OF THERMAL POLLUTION

Change dissolved oxygen Economic and environmental damage Decrease in productivity of the water body Changes in migration time and pattern may be

effected Death of steno hermetic animals production of heat shock

proteins for thermotolerance.

PREVENTION OF THERMAL POLLUTION

VISUAL POLLUTION DEFINITION;

Visual pollution is what you would call anything unattractive or visualizing damaging to the nearby landscape. This tends to be a highly subjective topic, as we all find different things attractive and unattractive.

EXAMPLE OF VISUAL POLLUTION

Some examples of visual pollution: Skyscrapers might block the view of a mountain Graffiti or carving on trees, rocks or other natural

landscapes Billboards, litter, abandoned homes and junkyards

could also be considered among three kinds of environmental pollution

CAUSES OF VISUAL POLLUTION

SOURCES OF VISUAL POLLUTION; POWER LINES CONSTRUCTION AREIA BILL BOARDS AND ADVERTISING

EFFECT OF VISUAL POLLUTION

PEOPLE WANTED TO GO TO THAT PLACES BUTS ITS WRITING ALL OVER

NOT KNOWING WHTS THE DRAWING MEAN UNTIDYNESS POLICE SEEING THEM DOING IT AND NOT DOING

ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT IT

PREVENTION OF VISUAL POLLUTION

Nuclear power plant Deforestation Soil erosion
