POINTS OF ARTICULATION

- refer to where the sound is formed.

Bilabials

- are formed by pressing the lower lip or against the upperlips.

Labiodentals

- are formed by pressing the lower lip the upper teeth.

Dentals

- are formed by pressing the tongue tip behind the upper front teeth.

Alveolars

- are formed by pressing the tip of the tongue near the alveolar ridge.

Alveopalatals

- are formed by pressing the front of the tongue near the hard palate.

Velars

- are formed by pressing the back of the tongue against thevelum.

Glottal

- are formed by narrowing of the glottis so the air that passes causes friction but doesnot have sufficient vibrationto produce voice.
