Engineering Pathways Program 2012/2013

• Nuriootpa High School is a member of the State Engineering Pathways Program and offers a

certificate in Engineering from the National Industry Training Package.

• Students study a variety of additional subjects (English, Maths, Physics, Soldering, Automotive, plus

more) and at the same time gain certification in industry standard training.

• 2 year program – must be committed• VET focus Year 11 – VET/SACE combination Year 12 • Students do 4 weeks Work placement in Year 11 &

2 weeks in Year 12• Can claim Work Experience through Work Place

Practises subject• 2012 - Looking at 1 full day per week delivery of metal

competencies (dependant upon Timetable structure)

Drawing, Welding

Units covered: MEM13014A - Apply principles of OHS in the work

environment (10hrs)

MEM07032B - Use workshop machines for basic operations (40hrs)

MEM12023A - Perform engineering measurements (30hrs)

MEM09002B - Interpret technical drawings (40hrs)

MEM05050B - Perform routine gas metal arc welding (20hrs)

MEM18001C - Use hand tools (20hrs)

Total 160 VET hrs - 20 credits Stage 1

PLUS 4 weeks Work Placement (in holidays)

MEM15024A - Apply quality procedures (18hrs)

Total 76 VET hrs - 10 credits Stage 2

PLUS 2 weeks Work Placement (in holidays)

SACE Achievement of ‘C grade’ or better for Metals 1 and 2 (full year)

& other local businesses. NOTE:Students who wish to enrol in this 2-year Program will need to complete an alternative subject selection form (see Mr. Mike Jones), complete a written application and attend an interview with both the EPP Manager and D&T Coordinator (Mr. John Barkley).

There will be a special Information Night for parents and students later this term, which will provide more detailed information, delivered by Mr. Mike Jones.

AUTO IPP MANAGER: Mike Jones

Automotive Pathways Program 2012/2013• Nuriootpa High School offers a course covering automotive service and repair of

light and heavy vehicles, including diesel mechanic, body re-pair, small scale engines, electrical and electronic, general service and maintenance.

• Course commenced 2011

• Students enter into a 2-year VET course. It has a primary VET focus across Years 11 & Yr 12 (Not SACE)

• Students do 4 weeks Work placement in Year 11 & 2 weeks in Year 12• Can claim Work Experience through Work Place Practises subject

• Will run on current Timetable structure 2012• First Year 12 cohort will go through in 2012

• Trade Training Centre Application

This course is aimed at people who want to work in a range of enterprises such as: - Automotive Dealerships and automotive service centres - Franchised automotive repairers - Independent automotive repairers - Various companies related to mining and transport including Local Government authorities.

Some of the competencies covered are:

Competencies from the Automotive Industry Retail, Service and Repair Training Package

(AUR05) * Apply safe work practices and workshop practice activities (OHS&W)* Carry out servicing operations and panel repairs* Use and maintain workplace tools and equipment* Parts and function of internal combustion engines and the drive systems associated with them. * Major part of the study consists of fault finding and practical activities with two-stroke and four- stroke engines. * And more!!!

PLUS a TOTAL of 6 weeks Work Placement (in holidays) across the 2 years
