Gaining Employability Skills and Finding Employment• It is hard! • Invest time now• Look at what you have achieved so far. What gaps do you

need to fill?•You will need to be:

• Pro-active• Enthusiastic• Adaptable• Inventive

Curriculum Vitae

Skills and attributes are a key area – not just a list but also a description of how you achieved them.

E.g. Excellent time management skills – along side my college studies I am also involved in……… but have never missed a deadline.

To help know what skills are needed for the job – use the National Careers Website - Job Profiles/skills

Employers also want to see all qualifications passed with grades – not 5 GCSE’s A-C (9-1)

How can young people develop these skills?

- Part-time job

- Work experience

- Volunteering

- Pursuing hobbies

e.g. the arts, IT-related, sporting activities,

environmental, travel, foreign language, reading

- Young leader

- Community projects

- Involvement with a range of people

(e.g. in terms of age, nationality, disability)

•Apprenticeships – an employer will provide training that will gain a nationally recognised qualification.
