Average Amount of Years Lost From Smoking

On average each individual who smokes loses 12 years off of their life span.

You Can Develop Many Different Types of Cancer if You Smoke

Smoking causes multiple types of cancer including cancer of the lungs, mouth, larynx, esophagus,

stomach, liver, pancreas, kidney, bladder, and cervix.

The more cigarettes you smoke each year the greater your chance are of getting one of these cancers.

Effects On The Respiratory System

Smokers are more likely than a nonsmoker to get the flu, pneumonia, or other infections that can affect your breathing.

Smoking causes 90% of all cases of Emphysema, a disease in which your lungs cannot extract oxygen form the air.

Effects On Your Bones

Older women who smoke have a greater chance of developing osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis weakens your bones, makes them brittle, and increases their chance of breaking.

Smoking causes atherosclerosis, the hardening and narrowing of the arteries.

Even though this process occurs as we age, smoking accelerates the process, even for young people.

Atherosclerosis leads to an increased risk of stroke, heart disease, aneurysms of the aorta and peripheral vascular disease, which can lead to the amputation of limbs.

Smokers chances of getting gum disease are 6 times higher than those who don't smoke.

Smoking can cause yellow and brown stains on your teeth due to tar deposits in the cigarettes.
