PROGRAM

History of EOP

Emerged in the context of the Civil Rights Movement

Social Economic Status (SES) linked to access to higher education.

1969: California legislature officially passed Senate Bill 1072 (Harmer Bill)

Primary goal: Increase access and retention of first-generation, low-income, historically disadvantaged students who displayed a potential for academic success

EOP Mission and Core Values

I Can I Will

I Can/I Will is a First-Year Experience program focused on increasing

the retention and graduation rates of African-American and

Latino males in EOP at SJSU.

Tutoring

The EOP Tutoring Center offers tutoring in a variety of subjects and is open to all EOP students. General help with most writing assignments is also available.

Appointment based scheduling and drop-ins available.

Tutoring as preventative rather than reactive

EOP workshops are designed to build and enhance your skill set for academic, personal and professional growth.

EOP Grant

Students who qualify for the EOP grant may be awarded up to $1400 per year ($700 per semester).

Determined by the financial aid office based off your FAFSA or Dream Act application.

FAFSA & Dream Act application priority deadline: March 2nd.

EOP PROGRAMS

Guardian Scholars

The SJSU Guardian Scholars Program, part of the Educational Opportunity Program, is committed to helping students exiting the foster care system, wards of the court, under legal guardianship or unaccompanied homeless youth.

Summer Bridge

Summer bridge is a 5 week, academic intensive program designed to fulfill remedial requirements and develop writing, math, and study skills.

Residential live on-campus program at no cost to student.

Admission into program is based on admission to SJSU, academic need, and ept/elm scores.

EOP Community

EOP provides a fun and friendly community for students to connect with one another and staff.

A strong community is important in feeling connected to the SJSU campus and in turn having a successful academic career.

LINK: A student leadership program within EOP that works build community through monthly social events.

Eligibility Criteria

California resident or AB540 Student

History of low income (FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application)

First generation college student

High school graduate/equivalent or transfer student

Meet regular SJSU admission requirements

Demonstrate a strong desire for academic support services

EOP Application Process

Apply for EOP at time of applying to the CSU and submit during same time period. There are 2 applications, CSU and EOP.

EOP application is an easy online submission.

You will need 2 recommendation forms

File the FAFSA or Dream Act application (if applicable).
