Over the past 35 years we have designed safety protocols tailored to the unique needs of teens. Each program shares an honour code that must be signed by both parents and/or guardians and you prior to departure. On all programs, staff are available 24/7 to respond to your needs.

That’s why EDGE Academy programs are designed to offer adventures abroad coupled with the option of on-destination or online education. Excursions serve to immerse you in the culture, traditions, language, and history of the places you visit. They ignite a passion in you and are often the most memorable part of the trip. Students participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award who travel and learn on destination are eligible to fulfill your residential section along with participation in community service and fitness activities.

The Costa Rica Surf Camp has one goal: to provide you with the most enjoyable and complete surfing experience possible. For this reason they have developed a comprehensive yet easygoing and relaxed approach to teaching surfing in beautiful Tamarindo. The program uses a variety of educational techniques to make sure you learn as much as possible. Students take advantage of a combination of in-water and in-class learning to familiarize themselves with the science of waves, the history of surfing, weather analysis, and important safety tips. Instructors also believe in implementing yoga to supplement surfing. Students also have the option of participating in CRSI’s Surf and Spanish Program. The qualified Costa Rican Spanish teachers at CRSI’s sister Spanish school in Tamarindo use a mix of lessons and fun activities to get you speaking conversational Spanish in no time!

learn They don’t call Costa Rica the “Rich Coast” for nothing; it’s one of the most bio-diverse countries in the world! Learn about the origins and history of Costa Rica’s coffee trade and taste it fresh while visiting a coffee plantation. Costa Rica is ranked as the “greenest” country in the world and you’ll be given the opportunity to experience this first hand in one of the areas seven national parks. In addition to the academic credit you will be earning in Costa Rica, you will have the opportunity to visit a local orphanage and accumulate community service hours in the process!
play The incredibly varied topography of Costa Rica means you can cruise the cloud forest one day, visit an active volcano the next, and cap it all off with a relaxing day on a hot sandy beach. Costa Rica has been rated one of the best surf spots in the world and those looking for an active program can surf, hike, snorkel, and spot wildlife. Imagine ziplining high above the trees in the Monteverde Cloud Forest or catching a wave while surfing off the incredible Pacific coast.
explore Active volcanoes, unspoiled rain forest, and pristine beaches gleaming with golden, grey, and black sand make Costa Rica an explorer’s paradise. You’ll be amazed with the abundance of natural beauty and endless adventure. The relatively small size of the country allows one to explore the beach, jungle, and mountains all in a short period of time. This is without a doubt one of EDGE Academy’s most adventurous programs. With endless things to see and do you won’t want to leave.

WHat’S incluDeDVolunteering in Peru offers a wide array of sights to send your vision into overdrive, from snow-capped mountains, steamy jungles, enormous sand dunes, to the rugged coastline of the Pacific. Most volunteer projects are based outside of Cusco, in rural villages where little has changed over the last 100 years. People in traditional Peruvian dress still farm the fields with ox-drawn ploughs, and donkeys are the main form of transport. On this trip, you will split your time between building and teaching. The building projects will depend on what the village needs, but may include constructing classrooms and playgrounds, digging and laying water pipelines, renovating orphanages, or any other vital infrastructure. You will also be able to donate your time to schools that are in desperate need of volunteers to teach English.

Who is EDGE Academy and why should I travel with you?EDGE Academy is the educational division of S-Trip!, the market leader in student travel in Canada. We have been in business since 1976. We have offices in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver. You can feel confident knowing that you are going to travel with a world class organization dedicated to outstanding customer service and a wonderful travel experience from the moment you enroll to the moment you return home.
How does EDGE Academy ensure student safety? We take the safety and security of our students very seriously; it is our number one priority. On programs over 20 days we have an orientation meeting in late April/May where we will cover the program honour code and communicate all expectations regarding conduct on the trip. In 35 years of taking students abroad on group tours we have refined our procedures regarding student group travel and we are constantly updating protocols to ensure we are doing everything we can to ensure student safety.
What makes EDGE Academy different?1. We listen to our students - each applicant has the opportunity to suggest additions to the itinerary. Based on student input we will include the most popular suggestions in the itinerary of your program.
2. We INCLUDE Classic Medical insurance in the cost of the program. You can purchase comprehensive insurance, if you wish, at an additional cost.
3. We work with a reputable academic sponsor who ensures that EDGE Academy credit programs meet and exceed Ministry standards.
4. We have superior customer service - our customer service department is open on week nights and the weekends so there is always someone here to answer your call.
5. We have the best staff - this includes our incredible teachers, experienced program directors, and highly trained destination staff.
6. We use clean and safe hotels located in areas with on-site or nearby classroom facilities (When applicable).
7. We make safety and security our highest priority - having a safe and rewarding travel experience is our number one goal.
Who are the EDGE Academy staff? Our destination staff are experienced travellers with a keen passion for learning. Destination staff are there to support the students and the teachers, they design cultural and recreational excursions for students during times in the itinerary where there are no prearranged outings.
On International Credit Programs, EDGE Academy teachers are Ontario certified. Our teachers have experience travelling with students and often speak the local language of your destination. Teachers are from public, private, and separate schools. Teachers are interviewed and vetted by EDGE Academy staff and must meet our high standards before being accepted onto our programs. What happens in case of an emergency? In the unlikely event of an emergency, our first priority is ensuring that the injured student receives immediate medical attention. One of our staff members will be with the student as soon as possible after the incident occurs until the situation has stabilized. We will then contact parents/guardians and the insurance company. Emergencies are handled by our most senior staff who will continue to monitor the situation as advised by medical professionals.
What does my package include? You EDGE package includes everything you’ll need for an incredible getaway! Every package includes round-trip transportation, hotel accommodation, transfers around
28
your destination, optional travel insurance with RBC, daily scheduled events and activities, and a meal plan.
What are the meals like on my trip?Through our 35 years in the student-travel business, we have realized the importance of great food. We eat at both local restaurants and at our hotel or residence. Our focus is on providing you with the necessary fuel to energize you and keep you going throughout the entire program. Please inform us of any specific dietary or allergy requirements.
Do I get to choose my roommate?Definitely. Please let us know on your application form who you would like to room with. Alternatively, you can always contact us pre-departure to let us know who you would like to be with.
Can residents of another province or country travel with EDGE Academy and earn a credit?Definitely. We encourage students from other provinces and states to join our programs. Please contact our office to arrange flights (if necessary) and to help you get the credit approved in your province, state, or country.
Should I purchase the RBC Comprehensive Insurance Policy?Youth and Student Comprehensive Package includes all the benefits of Classic Medical (included in the program fee) plus Trip Cancellation and Interruption, Baggage and Personal Effects, and Flight and Travel Accident Coverage. The Comprehensive package is highly recommended. Please ensure you have reviewed your policy for insurable reasons for cancellation. Even with RBC Youth and Student Insurance, there may be circumstances such as “change of heart” that are not covered and not eligible for a refund.
What documents do I need in order to travel? All EDGE Academy passengers are required to have a
valid Canadian passport for travel outside of Canada. Please ensure that your passport does not expire within 6 months of your return travel date. You can get the forms to apply for a passport here: www.ppt.gc.ca. We also suggest bringing at least one piece of government photo ID, such as a driver’s licence. Please note it is the passenger’s responsibility to obtain all necessary travel documents. Double check with the appropriate embassy before your departure to ensure that you have met all entry requirements.
