Energy Consumption Profile

Energy consumption peaks during the summer, with air-conditioning loads of small consumers connected to LV network accounting for the majority of electricity consumed

- Replace the energy inefficient AC units with more efficient version- Incorporation of direct load control into AC units

Business Case # 1Reduce the amount of energy consumed in the islands by encouraging

consumers by a replacement policy

Payback Period : 10 years (too high)

- Little incentive for households - Provision of subsidy could provide the motivation for replacement

The energy cost saving is equivalent to almost € 80 per unit replaced.

Business Case # 2Reduce the energy consumption by AC during peak periods

-Introduction of Critical Peak Pricing (CPP)- Introduce Smart Meters

Provision of a controller to automatically switch-off the air conditioning unit during CPP period

- Cost of smart meters @ € 150 - Benefit to Supplier : Avoided cost of Peak Power- Benefit to Customer : Reduce energy cost associated with new pricing structure

Supplier benefit would be at least € 22/customer/year to cover the up-front cost of smart metering

• Peak load reduction of 10% to 15%• Maximum energy cost saving to Supplier = € 0.4 / customer • Assuming 50 critical peak days per year, annual benefit to supplier is around € 22/year
