–10.30 A simple definition of a makerspace is a place
where individuals can assemble and create, invent or explore using a variety of tools and materials provided to them. The Maker Movement has gathered increasing momentum with several makerspaces launched across the world. With partners, University of Nairobi launched one and is using it to create a market ecosystem, developing new products and services. The head of the UoN makerspace will give a snapshot of the program and some of the products that have emerged from it.

In Kenya, over 6 out of 10 people are children. Almost 80% out of around 20 million children are subjected to last least one level of deprivation that include,but are not limited to, lack of access to water, malnourished, lack of education and health, or access to services.Over 70% of Kenya’s populate is below 30 years old. As a middle income country, finding sustainable local community owned solutions to challenges faced by adolescent, children and youth in hard to reach areas, including urban informal settlements, have never been more important.
