Design of residential building

Types of building1.Residential building – restaurant, apartment house,

hotels residential hostel.

2. Educational building – school, college

3. Institutional building – hospital, sanatoria, custodial institutions.

4. Assembly building – theatre, assembly halls, city halls, marriage halls, museums, place of work ship.

5. Mercantile building – shops, stores, markets.

6. Business building - offices, banks, professional establishments, court houses and libraries.

7. Industrial building – assembly plants, laboratories, dry cleaning plants, power plants, pumping station, smoke house.

8. Storage building – ware houses, cold storages, freight depots, transit sheds, grain elevators.

9. Hazardous building – chemical laboratories.

collage and public buildings• Transport facilities• Wind velocity and direction• Cost of land

Survey of site for proposed building• Site is located nearly.• No levelling is require since the land is must uniformly level.• The ground is soft.• Labour available near by the site.• Houses are located near by the site.

Building Bye Laws• the building bye laws are defined as the standards

and specifications designed to grant minimum safeguards to the workers during construction, to the health and comfort of the users and to provide enough safety to the public in general. They are applied to the new building and also to extensions, material alterations, and certain change of use of existing buildings.

• A building bye laws is a local law framed by a subordinate authority.

• Every local authority has two types of area under its justification-

Object of bye laws• To give guideline to the designer, architect or engineer.• To prevent haphazard development.• To limit or define the way the new structure are to be built.• To specify the type of material to be used.• To provide open spaces, air, breeze. Etc.• To afford safety against fire, noise and smoke etc.

Need and importance• the need for byelaws become more

important from the point of views of INDIA. The construction activity both in public and private sector in terms of building for industrial, commercial and residential and administrative user amount to 50% of outlay of any 5 year plan.

• With this certain projects can be delayed over a period of time to get completed.

• If we talk about the cities, if we loose control over the construction activity then the problem like visual disorder, traffic become uncontrollable, uncomfortable living, environmental problems etc. in the absence of suitable bye-laws and machinery to enforce them

Vaastu Shastra for residential building• Vaastu in Sanskrit means nature, a surrounding or

environment. The word “vaastu” denoting everything existing such as houses, shelter, building etc.

• Shastra in Sanskrit means system.

• Vaastu Shastra is a ancient art and science, containing principle and practices of constructing building which ensures a harmonious balance between man and nature and thereby bringing all around happiness, health, wealth and prosperity.

The panchmahabhutaIn the universe the earth is constructed by five elements. The principle of vaastu Shastra also based upon the these five basic element. These five elements are also called panchmahabhuta. The five elements are EARTH, AIR, WATER, FIRE and SPACE.
