Injection Molding ProcessOnce the material hardens, the mold is
opened and the part is removed.

What is the Injection Molding?Injection molding is a manufacturing process
for producing parts from both thermoplastic and
thermosetting plastic materials. Material is fed into heated
barrel, mixed, and forced into a mold cavity where it cools
and hardens to the configuration of the cavity.

Molding MachineMelted plastic forms shot in front of screw Screw moves back as plastic moves forward (reciprocating
screw)
Pellets placed in hopper
Pellets fall into barrel through throat
Pellets packed to form solid bed
Air forced out through hopperPellets melted by mechanical shear between barrel and
screw

What is Injection Molding used
for? Items made from injection molding
Injection molding is used for manufacturing plastic,
rubber and metal. Materials are fed through a heated
barrel in the machine and forced into a mold where it
will cool and take its shape. An injection molding
machine can stamp out metal car shell parts, rubber
valve steam seals, and even plastic toys for kids.

Advantages of Injection Molding
High Production rates
Design flexibility
Repeatability within tolerancesCan process a wide range of materials
Relatively low labor
Little to no finishing of parts
Minimum scrap losses
