INTRODUCTION

Indian Railways has one of the largest and busiest rail networks in the world, transporting over 18 million passengers. and more than 2 million tones of freight daily. It is the world's largest commercial or utility employer, with more than 1.4 million employees. The railways traverse the length and breadth of the country, covering 6,909 stations over a total route length of more than 63,327 kilometers (39,350 mi). 50,000 coaches and 8,000 locomotives

HISTORY

First railway system in India was proposed in 1832 in Madras.The first train in India was not a passenger train and was operational on 1851-12-22. A few years later, on 1853-04-16,the first passenger train between Bori Bunder, Bombay and Thana covering a distance of 34 km (21 miles) was inaugurated. almost six years later, on March 3, 1859, the first Railway Line in North India was laid between Allahabad and Kanpur.

DIESEL SHED IZZATNAGAR

Izzatnagar is one such shed in Northeastern Railways homing 128 Diesel Locos

It provide service in NER railway and Lucknow Division which is expressed in west U.P, uttrakhand and east area of U.P

SHED LAYOUT

Shed covered area is 43006 meter squar .The shed was established in 07November 1988 , It was initially planned to home 50 YDM4 locomotives. This shed mainly provides locomotive to run the mail, goods and passenger services.It provide service in NER railway and Lucknow Division which is expressed in west U.P, uttrakhand and east area of U.P

ALTERNATOR

The Diesel engine drives the main alternator which provides the power to the train and traction motor.

TRACTION MOTOR

Traction motor are provided on axle to give final drive. These motor were traditionaly DC but the development of 3 phase AC motors

FUEL TANK

A diesel locomotives has to carry its own fuel around with it and there has to be enough for a resonable length to trip

RADIATOR & RADIATOR FAN

Water is distributed around the engine block to keep the temprature within the most efficient range for the engine . The water is cooled by passing it through a radiator blown by a fan driven by the diesel engine

Turbo charging is used to increase the amount of air pushed into each cylinder.

TURBO SUPER CHARGER

• The turbo charger is driven by exhaust gas from the engine

• The main advantage of the turbo charger is that it gives more power with no increase in fuel costs because it uses exhaust drive power

• Turbo charging gives a 50% increase in engine power

• The amount of fuel which can be burnt depends on the amount of air available in the cylinder.

BOGIE

A bogie is a wheeled wagon or trolley. a bogie is a chassis or framework carrying wheels, attached to a vehicle.

CLASSIFICATION

SPEEDOMETER

The memory cards records the data of speed at every moment when the loco runs on the line. This information makes the maintenance process much easier.
