This is a 5 week survey course of an Introduction to Economics. A social science dealing with how societies allocate scarce resources for the purpose of fulfilling needs and wants.

Intended Learners•High School students needing a social studies credit (.5) for graduation. •Students looking to build personal finance skills.

Develop and or improve your ability to understand and make informed judgments on major economic questions.Understanding the most common economic questions (concepts), students will become more effective in making informed decisions as potential employees and employers, voters, college students, business people, home-owners, borrowers, renters, investors, politicians, members of civic organizations, and as you encounter other daily economic problems.To identify and analyze the effects of how we answer the economic questions from differing and often opposing viewpoints.Demonstrate the subjectivity of distinctions between needs and wants.

Course ObjectivesUsing prior knowledge of concepts students already know to understand and remember Key Terms in each chapter to apply (or ‘use’) them.Arguing 2 or more sides of economic questions in written and oral form. Level 2- listing opposing sides. Level 3-explaining why the opposing argument is wrong and why you are correct. Searching and analyzing news or magazine articles that are examples of economic questions we discuss and read about in class.Learning to ‘read’, pull data from, analyze and create economic charts (graphs)Summarizing- explaining main points of complex issues in 12 words or lessIllustrate the concepts of trade offs and opportunity cost.
