DESCRIPTION

The 2012 Stampede Centennial Theme “We’re Greatest Together” speaks to how for 100 years westerners have gathered every year to dine, to dance, to create, to ride and to dress. What started as a one-timesalute to cowboy culture – the culture of integrity, pride of place, commitment to community and western hospitality – has evolved into the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. The question is why? Why do thousands of volunteers, hundreds of thousands of Calgarians, and over a million visitors each year get caught up in the contagion? Why has the celebration endured for 100 years and become a brand that defines the city? Why is the experience embraced so widely by so many? Join Deanne Carson as she shares some insights on these questions and hear about some of the highlights of the 2012 Calgary Stampede Centennial Celebration.
