DRAGONS ARE IN THE HOUSE!

Hello Division 32! I hope you all had an awesome September. Now that October has begun, this means two things: UNICEF AND DUES! Hopefully all of you have ordered your UNICEF boxes. Also, the new membership update center has been released; please contact me or District Treasurer, Kenneth Lam, if you are having issues logging in.

This year we want to win the District Derby and try to get all of our dues in as early as possible! If you need ideas for recruiting members, please contact me! The fall time is crucial in building the foundation for your club. I guess that’s all I have to say, see you all at the October DCM!

KEY CLUB WEEK 2012

What’s Key Club Week? Key Club week is a week during November where Key Clubbers from all around are able to show their spirit and passion for Key Club. Each day of the week is dedicated to an important part that makes up Key Club. Day 1: Show your K in every way Day 2: Kudos to the Key players Day 3: Connect the Ks Day 4: Bring a friend to Key Club Day 5: Your Way

Every year, thousands of Key Clubbers order these infamous boxes so that they can go around their neighborhoods to collect loose change for UNICEF. Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF us Key Clubbers the chance to help others. This campaign has raised more than $167 million so far and every donation, big or small,, makes a difference. Thanks to our participation, girls and boys all over the world receive the help they need for healthy and happy lives.

CLUB SPOTLIGHT: Hazen High School! Each year, Hazen Key Club gets really creative with their Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF project. In addition to placing the boxes in the teachers’ classrooms, they offer a competition and also a “Jam-fest” where talented musicians in their school are able to perform at lunch to help get donations.

The ELIMINATE PROJECT

What is MNT? In 38 countries around the world maternal

and neonatal tetanus (MNT) can quickly

turn the joy of childbirth into a tragedy.

MNT kills one baby every nine minutes. Its

effects are excruciating – tiny newborns

suffer repeated, painful convulsions and

extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There

is little hope of survival and tetanus also kills

the mother.

Why focus on this issue?

It is unacceptable that newborns and their

mothers suffer from such an easily

preventable disease. It is also a great

opportunity for us to reach out to the

poorest mothers and newborns and be

able to provide lifesaving healthcare.

Developing a delivery system for these

vaccines will greatly help families in third-

world countries.

How does Key Club help?

With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis

International and UNICEF have joined

forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal

tetanus. It will take $110 million to fund all

the vaccines, syringes, safe storage,

transportation, thousands of skilled staff &

more—and the dedicated work of UNICEF

and every member of the Kiwanis family.

The committee will be thoroughly picking over Key

Club International’s Bylaws and Policies to help eliminate

discrepancies, provide clarification, and correct

structural/grammatical issues. It will not be altering content. The Bylaw Review Team will present its suggestions to the Key Club

International Executive Committee, who may then

choose which revisions to take to the Key Club International

Board.

The committee will serve to highlight the diversity and international flavor of our

organization, as well as promote our core value of “inclusiveness”

as a way to attract more members. The Global Task

Force will help draft educational resources and

collect stories and video for further use by the standing International committees.

Our Service Ambassadors will help promote the Eliminate Project and our Preferred

Charities by encouraging Key Club members to participate to know how to participate with the Eliminate Project and our Preferred Charities. We hope

they will indirectly make service attractive for members by

displaying their own personal passion for the Eliminate Project and our Preferred

Charities in all aspects of their lives.

Key Club International is now offering all Key Club members to have an opportunity to apply by October 20th and become members of the Key Club International’s 3 Special Committees! As a committee member, you will not have benefits such as traveling and paid expenses; however, you will have the opportunity to work with the International board in making a lasting impact for Key Club International. The three committees are: The Bylaw Review Team, The Global Task Force, and the Service Ambassadors. SAY WHAT? Our District Governor, Giovanni

McKenzie, chose Project: Educate as this year’s

District project. We will be working with the

Jamaican District to help raise funds for the

education of kids in Jamaica.

HOW CAN I HELP? Each Lieutenant Governor

was given the opportunity to sell T-shirts ($15) and

wrist bands ($1) to help support this cause. If you are

interested in buying one, please contact your Lt. G.

Your club can also help by planning a fundraiser to

help raise funds.
