CSR & Sustainability Policy

RVNL’s commitment to its stakeholders to conduct business in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner that is transparent and ethical.

Stakeholders include employees, investors, shareholders, customers, business partners, clients, civil society groups, government and non-government organizations, local communities, environment & society at large.

CSR & Sustainability Policy has been issued duly approved by BoD of RVNL in Feb 2013 as per revised guidelines issued by DPE

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Carroll’s Four Part Definition

Understanding the Four Components

As per the approved CSR and Sustainability Policy, RVNL has put in place a three tier organizational structure to steer the CSR and Sustainability agenda of RVNL:

1)Tier-I: Board Level Committee is headed by Independent Director

2)Tier-II: Corporate Level Committee is headed by Executive Director (Mech), the Nodal Officer for CSR & Sustainability

3)Tier-III: PIU Level Committee is headed by respective Chief Project Manager of Project Implementation Unit

RVNL has already entered into a long term MoU on 17.11.2011 with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), nominated as a National CSR Hub by DPE, to provide necessary support in implementation of CSR activities in RVNL.

RVNL is utilizing the services of specialized external agencies, NCSR Hub and MoEF empanelled NGOs, Ramakrishna Mission, TISS etc for baseline/ Needs assessment studies, preparation of project reports, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, audit and social impact assessment studies apart from involvement of the field level Committees for close monitoring, evaluation and feedback.

CSR & Sustainability Drive

A comprehensive report on CSR & Sustainability activities of RVNL has been made in the Annual Report of RVNL for the year 2012-13.

Also, with effect from 15.04.2013, a separate head of “CSR & Sustainability” has been created on RVNL’s website and all information related to CSR & Sustainability is being uploaded on the website on regular basis.

During the year 2013-14, Board Level Committee held three meetings on 16.04.2013, 03.07.2013 & 26.11.2013.

Providing hostel facilities for 300 tribal boys in the backward District of Narayanpur (Chhattisgarh). The CSR project is being implemented by Ramakrishna Ashrama, Narainpur for total expenditure of `3.82 Crore. The project, commenced on 1st April 2012, will be completed in March 2014.

As per NCSR Hub Report, “the hostel facilities will provide access to quality & value education to the tribal boys and thus, provide a sound platform for mainstreaming of these children and facilitate in meeting the Millennium Development Goals for achieving universal primary education”.

Education & Development of 100 under privileged differently abled children in the backward District of South 24 Paraganas (West Bengal) is being implemented by the Institute for Handicapped & Backward People, Kolkata. The CSR project, commenced on 1st April 2012, is being implemented for three years (2012-15) for `75 Lakhs.

65 hearing impaired (21 boys & 34 girls), 28 mentally challanged (17 boys & 11 girls) 17 children with cerebral palsy (14 boys & 3 girls) are covered in the project under supervision of well qualified & trained teachers with student to teacher ratio of 10:1 for hearing impaired, 6:1 for mentally challanged & 3:1 for cerebral palsy and dedicated support staff.

As per mid term social audit carried out by NCSR Hub “the project has generated lots of curiosity and a positive response amongst the parents of the disabled children because this is one of its kind”.

Educational support to 300 under privileged children & Health support in the backward District of South 24 Paraganas (West Bengal) is being implemented by Ramakrishna Math, Naora. The project, commenced on 1st October 2012, is being implemented for three years (2012-15) for `1.47 Crore.

As per mid term social audit carried out by NCSR Hub, “the services Math provides will go a long way in contributing to better health conditions in the area. For these deprived communities, the health camps are a boon. It has made these people come out of their houses and recognise the importance of a doctor’s diagnosis. This programme has helped local students throughout the formal training process. Irrespective of their understanding and level of acquiring knowledge, a positive impact has been observed in terms of mobilising them towards pursuing formal education. This has motivated them to participate in group activities”.

Educational Programme

Solar home lighting system is being provided to 500 households covering 13 villages in Bhangar-I & Canning-II blocks in the backward District of South 24 Paraganas (West Bengal) at a total cost of Rs 39 Lakhs. The project is being implemented by TERI and Ramakrishna Math, Naora is the monitoring agency & sustainability partner.

The project, commenced on 1st April 2013, will be completed by December 2013.

CSR & Sustainability Projects 4Providing Solar Home Lighting System to

500 households

The sustainability project for plantation of about 10,000 trees is being implemented at three project sites, namely, at Luni (Jodhpur), Cherlopalle (Chennai) & Kantabanji (Raipur) based on the baseline survey report submitted by M/s EQMS, New Delhi, a MoEF empanelled organisation. MoU target for 2013-14 is plantation of 6,000 trees.

The project, commenced on 1st April 2013, is being implemented for an expenditure of `60 Lakhs and will be completed by March 2014.
