Hello, How are you doing?Today, we are going to start a new lesson on

customary Linear Units.

UnitA fixed amount that is used as a standard of

measurement is defined as Unit.Example – the length of a box is 6 cm.

The measurement of distance between two end points is defined as Length.

Example – the length of the line segment is 3 cm.

Customary Units or Metric UnitsMost Countries use the metric system of

measurement. Example – cm, m, km, kg, g, L

The United States uses the Customary Units of measurement.

Example – feet, inch, yard, mile

Relation in Customary Units of length1 foot = 12 inch (in)1 yard = 36 inch

= 3 feet1 mile = 1,760 yards

= 5,280 feet

Finding length using customary units

Line up one end of the object to the “0” mark of the ruler.

Find the inch mark that is closest to the other end of the object.

Conversion of units To convert larger unit to smaller, multiply

with the conversion number.Example – 3 feet = 12 x 3 inch

= 36 inch To convert smaller unit to larger, divide

with the conversion number.Example – 48 inch = 48/12

= 4 feet
