In the decades since the popular emergence of the Internet, the Media sector has reinvented itself & remains in perpetual transformation. A notable trend in this evolution has been the formation of four spheres of influence - Social, Information, Entertainment & Transactional - each anchored by a symbolic leader: respectively, Facebook, Google, Apple & Amazon. These have tended to migrate into one another’s domains & as they do, so too the spheres they represent. This presentation illustrates the broad sector patterns described, pointing to a general state of convergence that also includes the integration of commerce & finance, software & hardware, online & offline, & the increasing adoption of mobile communication into all these forms. This presentation is not a comprehensive review of sector activities or a survey of competitors. Nor is it an analysis or set of recommendations for purposes of assessing any investment, public or private.
