Tenor and Bass Trombone – Instructions and Information
1. Preliminary Instructions a. The audition material comes from three categories
i. Etude Excerpts – everyone prepares these ii. Orchestral Excerpts – for those interested in auditioning for
the TTU Symphony Orchestra, also prepare these excerpts iii. Sight Reading – everyone takes part in this activity
b. It is recommended that you listen to recordings of the Orchestral Excerpts to gain accurate ideas of tempo range and style. Visit http://imslp.org/ to access scores of the orchestral works for reference. Tempo references for the “Etude Excerpts” are contained in this document.
c. TENOR TROMBONISTS: Some excerpts are in Tenor Clef. Tenor Clef Preliminary Instructional PDF’s are included in this packet.

ii. Berlioz – Hungarian March 1. Second Trombone Part 2. Six Measures before ‘4’ through the second measure of

i. Schumann – Symphony #3 1. Fourth Movement 2. Opening through the third measure after ‘A’
ii. Berlioz – Hungarian March 1. Third Trombone Part 2. Six Measures before ‘4’ through the second measure of
‘5’ 4. Sight Reading will take place as part of the audition process.
