CaLabo Tips: Playing DVDVHS
• Make sure room speakers are on.
• Movie Teleco
• Mpeg files in student server
Playing videos on student screens
1. Press “Capture” to play the DVD or VHS 2. If Movie Teleco has been turned on through
Calabo, the video will appear on student screens.
3. Check Fullscreen 4. You can use the Remote to adjust title
selection etc.

practice. They can listen to the
complete dialogue, or record one half of the dialogue
Recording Tools Students record each part
of the dialogue at their own pace.
They can pause, listen, and re-record as is necessary, until they are satisfied.

Conversation Practice
Building Conversation Activities for the Language Lab
• What is the information gap and the target language ?
• i.e. what are your students talking about? How are they going to talk about it?
• If necessary, create a document to send to students that they will refer to in conversation – a map, menu, set of photos, etc.
Conversation Tool • Make sure headsets are plugged in!
• You can manually adjust partners.
• Use the “intercom” tool to talk with students if there is an odd number.
File Control • Useful for sending students maps, menus,
photos, and other conversation aids.
Getting to know you…
• Students are paired randomly using conversation tool
• Every 2-3 minutes, their partners are switched.

• Students each get a caller and receiver card.
• Take turns exchanging phone messages.
