Introduction• Color theory is a body of practical

guidance to color mixing and the visual impact of specific color combinations

• Color theory principles first appear in the writings of Alberti (c.1435) and the notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci(c.1490),

Primary Colors

Red Yellow and Blue

Secondary Colors

TERTIARY COLORS

• Formed by mixing a primary and a secondary color

• Yellow-orange, red-orange, red-purple, blue-purple, blue-green and yellow-green

Analogous Colors

Analogous colors are any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel

Complementary Colors

Complementary colors are any two colors which are directly opposite each other
