College Dairy On 3rd April 2017, the College
organized a plantation drive in
the campus. This event was done
in collaboration with the NGO
DAWN. The college faculty,
students, members of NGO
DAWN and students from
Welkin School took active part in
planting saplings in the college
campus.
An award distribution
ceremony was organized in the
college in which prizes were
distributed among the students of
the college who took part in inter
college race at University of
Kashmir on 19th May 2018.

On 13th June 2017, a one day Self Defense Awareness Programme was
organized in the college
campus with practical
sessions. The students were
made aware about self defense
techniques and given live
practical demonstration. A
number of students took part
in these practical sessions.
On 15th June 2017, a
cleanliness drive was held in the
college by the Department of
Environmental Sciences along with
NSS units of the college. The
college campus was cleaned and all
the polythene present at
different places was put in the
dustbins.
The Department of
Economics organized an
extensive lecture on GST on
21st August 2017 in the
College Dairy

college campus. Prof Safeer Mukhtar of Economics deliberated on the GST
and explained it in a very lucid manner. The lecture was followed by a
question answer session.
The Departments of Geography and
History took students to different
places as subject tours on 25th July
2017. The students explored various
important historical places and also
collected samples from various
geographical important places.
In its sanitation drive
the college NSS unit visited
Govt. Middle school Check
Roady Khan on 16th
September 2017 and
distributed different types
of sanitary items among the
school children such as
tooth brushes, tooth pastes, soaps etc. The children were made aware about
importance of health hygiene.

On 20th September 2017, the
college organized a general picnic to
Doodhpathri. The students of all the
semesters along with teaching and non
teaching staff participated in the picnic
to this health resort. During picnic a
cleanliness drive was also held under
“Swachta Hi Seva Hai” banner.
On 10th October 2017,
the Department of Psychology,
in collaboration with
Department of Education
organized “World Mental
Health Day” in the college.
The speakers deliberated on
the importance of sound
physical and mental health for a prosperous life.

An inter college Seerat
conference was held in the college on
14th November 2017. The students
from different college besides guest
lecturers participated in this
conference and deliberated on the
topic “ عصر حاضّر اور سیرت رسول کی
Top three position holders were .”اہمیت
awarded the prizes on this occasion.
As per routine the
Jammu and Kashmir AIDS
control society in
collaboration with the
college Red Ribbon Club
organized World AIDS day
on 1st December 2017. The
students were made aware
about the dangerous effects of AIDS and its prevention.

Departments of Geography
and Environmental Sciences of
the college organized an inter
college symposium on Disaster
Awareness in the college on 17th
December 2017. The students
from different colleges besides
the host college participated in the
symposium. Prizes were
distributed among the best speakers on this occasion.
On 21st March 2018,
Mother tongue day was
celebrated in the college.
The teachers and students
stressed on the use and
adaptation of mother
language. It was reiterated
that the best way to
express one’s ideas and learn a subject is to use mother language for it.

College campus cleanliness
drive was held on 24th April 2018.
The officers and volunteers of the
NSS programme actively
participated in the drive besides
other students of the college.
The college sports
committee organized a
cross country run on 12th
May, 2018. A large
number of students
participated in this race.
The top three position
holders of the race were
awarded trophies by the worthy principal in the valedictory function.

Nazoorli Quran conference was held on 4th of June 2018. The chief guest
of the function was Prof.
Hamid Naseem
Rafiabadi, the head of
Department of Islamic
studies, Central
University, Kashmir. The
other guests on the
occasion were the chief
editor of Tameeli-Irshad,
the daily Urdu newspaper, Prof. Naseem Gul, Assistant Professor of BGSBS
University, Rajori, and Dr. Rashid Afaq Ex Principal, Higher Secondary
School. The orators deliberated on the essence of Quran.
A carom
competition was
organized by the
Sports Department of
the college. Different
teams were formed and
various carom matches
were held among these
teams and on 11th June
2018, final match was held in the conference hall of the college.

In its Swach Bharat
Summer Internship the NSS
units of the college organized
different cleanliness drives at
various schools and localities.
One such drive was held on 29th
June 2018 along the banks of
famous Wular Lake. The college
teachers along with NSS volunteers cleaned the banks of the lake and made
local population aware about water pollution and its consequences.
On 30th of June,
2018 Regional Director of
IGNOU, Dr. Mukbul
Laskar and Assistant
Regional Director Dr.
Kamlesh Meena held an
interactive session with
the teaching faculty and
students of the college on the occasion of inauguration of IGNOU centre in
the college, exclusively for female students. This will be the first study centre
of its type in northern India where only female students will pursue their
degrees, diploma and certificate courses.

The entire world wants
to progress and prosper. The
requisition for which is
peace. The college organized
an inter college symposium
on “Peace for Progress and
prosperity” on 10th July
2018. The students from
different college of north Kashmir participated in this symposium. They
deliberated on the importance of peace for progress and prosperity. The toppers
of the symposium were felicitated with the trophies by the worthy principal of
the host college.
An extensive lecture on personal
hygiene was organized by NSS units of
the college exclusively for staff &
teachers on 11th July 2018. The lady
doctors from SDH, Sopore deliberated on
personal health in a very lucid way.

Department of
Geography, Govt. Degree
College for Women, Sopore
organized a one day
“Geography Field Study
Tour” to Uri, District
Baramulla on 12 th July, 2018. As
the real laboratory of
Geography is the ‘Field’,
efforts are being made to
provide ideal opportunities to the
students to study the field in order to bridge the gap between ‘the classroom
teaching learning process’ and ‘the field study’. Keeping in view the dynamic
nature of the subject and the prescribed syllabus, the aforesaid field study to
Uri, Baramulla was conducted in order to make students familiar with the
geomorphic and socio-economic
phenomena of the area.
On 21st July 2018, the
department of Botany organized a
one day botanical tour to three
important plant-hotspot areas
including Ferozpura, Drang and
Gulmarg for the students of B.Sc. 1st
and 4th Semester. During the tour, Dr. G G Mohi-Ud-Din HOD botany

introduced and acquainted students with more than 50 medicinal and aromatic
plants growing in the hotspot areas.
The Department of Sports Govt. Degree College for women organized a
tug-of-war competition on 21st
of July 2018 among the
students of the college. The
competition was held in the
College lawn and a large
number of students
participated in it. The match
was watched by huge number
of students and staff of the college.
The Sports Department of the college
organized a Tug-of-war competition
among college teaching and non-teaching
faculty members on 24th July 2018. The
members were divided into two teams-
headed by Dr. ShowkatSubhan Mir,
Assistant Professor Environmental
Sciences and Dr. G.G. Mohi-ud-Din Assistant Professor Botany. The team
headed by Dr. G.G Mohi-ud-Din was declared winner in this competition.

The Department of History organized a subject tour to SPS Museum on 28th
July 2018. All the students of
the college who have opted for
history in their curriculum took
part in this tour. The students
spent a lot of time in the
museum and explored all the
historical items present in the
museum. Prof. Tariq Ahmad
Bhat HOD and Assistant Professor of History deliberated on different
historically important items present in the museum.
The department of Sports made a good
progress in sports by winning an
intercollege cricket match held at
University of Kashmir on 30th July 2018.
The players took a joint photograph with
the worthy Principal of the college and
Convener, Sports Committee before
leaving for the competition.

Swach Bharat Door to Door Sanitation
Awareness Campaign was held by
NSS volunteers on 30th July 2018. The
NSS students along with NSS
programme officers went door to door
in the localities and educated students
about sanitation and hygiene. The
students provided information to local
population in native languages.
The students of BCA 1st, 3rd& 4th
Semester organized a farewell
party for the outgoing BCA 6th
semester on 31st July 2018. The
students decorated the BCA lab
and appreciated their seniors for
their care and selfless cooperation
to juniors. The seniors thanked
worthy College Principal and BCA
staff for their support during their
studies. HOD BCA in his speech highlighted the dedication, hard work,
punctuality and obedience of the seniors to their teacher. He also prayed for
their prosperous future. In the end Mr. Jawhar presented the vote of thanks.

It was an eventful annual session in terms of academic activities and
sports for the college students and all the Departments of the College look
forward to many more such interesting upcoming seminars, competitions, tours
and events in the coming year.
