Traditional VS Modern
☻Plan☻ 1.Introduction☻ 2.Traditional clothes ☻ 3.Modern clothes☻ 4.Conclusion ☻
☺ Introduction☺Nowadays, all Tunisian young people wear modern clothes. They wear trousers and shirts because they are more practical to use. Besides, people would like to look
elegant. They are also fond of the European fashion. But people can’t wear traditional clothes because they are more
expensive and modem one.
The Traditional dress in Tunisia differs depending on the region and the ceremony. People of the south
tend to have more brightly coloured clothing than people of the north.
Ago, our grandfathers used to wear “jebba”. It’s an ample traditional cloth. Men wore it because the weather is hot. They also wore
“chéchia” on their heads. It’s a red hat and it protected them against
cold weather.Women used to wear a veil called
“safsari” when they rarely went out. They needed to hide their faces
men.

Traditional Clothes MarketJebbas, kachabiyas,
kaftans and chechias… this is the traditional
clothes market found in the medina of Sfax!
Nowadays, traditional clothes are still worn in some regions of Tunisia
and for special occasions such as weddings and
religious holidays ..
Chechias are traditional red felt hats
worn by old men, especially when the
weather is cold. Children also
occasionally wear them for special
occasions, such as a circumcision party or
religious holiday.Shops in the

Keftans come in many
different colours and
designs. They are worn for special
occasions.
The “barnous”, on the left, is a light jacket
used for cool weather. The “kachabiya”, on the right, is thicker and
worn when the weather is cold. They are
made from camel fur or
sheep's wool.
Modern clothes In Tunisia now, people dress in a
very modern way. They take their fashion cues from Europe (mainly
France) and dress accordingly. Clothes of the Modern World looks at how fashions have changed in the last 200 years, as increasing
industrialization has brought a greater range of
garments and new fabrics, and traces the
development of both haute couture and street style.
