Easter Joy!
One of the sad things about our secular society is that it often does not know how to handle
“the day after” major celebrations and holidays. It seems that with advertising and the media, once
the day has passed, it is back to the old grind. One time, on December 26th, I saw something really
sad: a Christmas tree stripped of its decorations, thrown out for the recycle pick up. That the tree
will be recycled is good, but the fact is for that particular family, Christmas was one short day. We
do not have to worry about one short day when it comes to celebrating Easter. Our celebration of
resurrection and new life continues for fifty days. Easter is the principal celebration of the church
year and we do not stop our celebration after one day. It is too important to confine to one day, week
or month.
At Easter time our relationship with God takes on new life. Days and months of selfishness
and forgetfulness have weakened our relationship with our loving God. During Lent we tried to face
our sinfulness and began to open our hearts to God by acts of penance. During Holy Week we relived
the last earthly days of Jesus and remembered His love for us.
Easter is the time for Lent and Holy Week to come to fulfillment in our lives. Hopefully, we
have made changes in our lives during the past six weeks. If not, we can still look forward to an
Easter miracle: the risen Jesus can do wonders if we surrender to Him. The crucified and risen Jesus
will intensify our prayer and deepen our charity. His concerns will become our concerns. The
experience of rediscovering God’s love and all of our dying to selfishness makes us new people with
new insights, purpose and energy. God’s transforming grace makes us new people alive to God in
Christ Jesus. May the Risen Lord continue to be with us and may He grant us the gift of new life
with Him and one another! On behalf of the parish staff, I wish each of you a Blessed and Happy
Easter!
Father David

Act of Spiritual Communion by Saint Alphonsus Ligouri:
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

positive actions we can take right now It is the prayer of Fr. David and the St. James staff that you are remaining safe and healthy, figuring out a sort of "new normal", while always remembering that the Lord is near and His love never changes. Although we are apart physically at this time, the faith family of St. James has never been closer spiritually. Your light and love continue to shine brightly in these tough times and it is such an encouragement to so many. Based upon some suggestions you've taken the time to generously offer, we would like to offer some (hopefully) helpful resources of positive actions we can take right now during this time when we are asked to shelter-in-place. We will send updates via Flocknote 3x a week with more suggestions. May God bless you and keep you close to His heart.
help out a charity
• Catholic Charities • DuPage PADS • The Glen Ellyn Food Pantry
All of these local charities are on the frontlines in these difficult times. Some need donations and some also need young and healthy volunteers. Please consider helping if you can.
