Introduction

• Archaeology is a domain seldom delved into by computer engineers

• This enabling software is currently under development at the Jaypee Institute of Information Technology and shall also be integrated into a web application

• Our research revolves around reconstruction and classification of Indian pottery

• It shall also be user friendly

Existing Research

• Data Acquisition

• Profile Modeling and Matching

• Reconstruction of Pottery

Features

• Curve outline extraction from 2D image

• Control points extraction to reduce computation

• Curve recognition which searches a database for the nearest match

• Reconstruction of the given pot profile into a 3D object which may be manipulated

• Extension of the reconstructed pot by manual editing or

via spline database

SG, AJ, PS, SB & SB: 2005

Advantages over earlier research

• User Friendly and fully automated hence minimal time is spent learning and familiarizing with the software

• Software is completely independent of any other application software.

• No licensing fee and implicit costs as required in commercial software.

• Minimal memory and hardware requirement

Future Endeavors

• This software is still under development and a stepping stone towards more comprehensive applications.

• In our future endeavors we would like to collaborate on real life projects with archaeologists

• Such a collaboration shall be mutually beneficial
