The positions of public servants are divided into:

•Career civil servants

•Public servants of political (personal) confidence

•Head of the institution

•Statutory civil servants

Positions of public servantsPositions of public servantsCareer civil servant – means a public servant admitted to a position for an indefinite term and having an opportunity to realise his right to career development in the public service in accordance with the procedure by the Law of Civil Service.

Public servants of political (personal) confidence – means a public servant admitted to a position for the term of office of a state politician or a collegial state institution that has recruited him.

Head of the institution – means a public servant who leads for institution.

Statutory civil servant – their services are governed by separate statutes

Categories and gradesCategories and grades

Category A shall comprise positions where higher university education.

Category B shall comprise positions where education not lower than higher non – university education

Category C shall comprise positions where education not lower than secondary education and an appropriate professional qualification are required

20 grades of positions of the civil servant’s. 20 – higher, 1 – lower.

- to hold the citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania

- to have proficiency in the Lithuanian language

- to be not less than 18 years of age and not more than 65 of age

- to have education necessary to hold the office of a civil servant of that category
