Throughout 155 years in business, our main focus has been on the fulfilment of our customers’ requirements and adaption to meet their future needs.
ABoUt THoMAS WArBurTon Thomas Warburton Pty. Ltd. was formed in 1858 by Thomas and Martha Warburton originally as wrought iron
merchants supplying the gold fields and prospecting gold miners. The original location of the business was at 384 Bourke Street and one of the founding businesses of Melbourne. The business remained in Bourke Street for 108 years until continued growth meant new premises needed to be found. This led to a move to South Melbourne (or what is today referred to as Southbank) in 1965. During the period at South Melbourne, Thomas Warburton continued to expand significantly and was augmented with the acquisition of like minded businesses (Andrew Gaults, Kinik Australia, Bairnsdale Bearings).
This growth combined with opening of additional branches once again led to the need for even larger premises and in 1998 the company moved its head office and main warehouse to the current location in Mulgrave. Effective in January 2011 further growth was undertaken with a merger between EDL Fasteners Australia Pty. Ltd. and Thomas Warburton enabling greater exposure to eastern Australia. This merger brought together two companies with similar markets and a strong commitment to inventory holdings, systems and a broad range of products and associated knowledge for the industrial market.
Together, we are uniquely positioned to provide the east coast of Australia with the most comprehensive product offering, solutions and systems available. The resulting product portfolio comprises an extensive offering to industry including fasteners, abrasives, chemical compounds, cutting tools, hand and power tools, metrology, materials handling, cleaning, safety products and welding.

Warburton – Penny Trade Token 1862
Thomas Warburton has always been a company looking to adopt solutions which make business easier. During the 1840s many of the colonies encountered a small change crisis. In response to the inadequate supply of coins some of the entrepreneurial operations of the time issued trade coins which not only solved the shortage but also provided an opportunity to advertise their business and the services they provided.
Thomas Warburton was a founding business of Melbourne and produced coins which they and other like minded firms and their clients accepted as tender to help the local economy through these times. Token coins were produced with the business details on the front and an Australian reverse design on the rear face. The coins of Thomas Warburton were produced by the firm of Thomas Stokes who migrated to Australia in January 1854 on board the “Birmingham” the same ship as Martha and Thomas Warburton. In 1857 Thomas Stokes purchased mills capable of producing copper coins and provided this service to local businesses who previously had tokens produced in Britain. Today both companies are still in business an example of their adaptability and foresight to continue to evolve to meet the demands of the times.

CIMS is a traditional full service two bin system that works on the JIT process to ensure a constant supply of components. Using the pull method the front bin is used and once exhausted is placed aside to be scanned which signals your demand long before you encounter a stock-out. The rear bin then slides forward to become your active stock. A system that provides optimal efficiency of product supply which has been refined by CIMS to further allow greater customising and increase productivity in line with our customers’ specific requirements.
CIMS provides a simple solution for the management of your consumables and is flexible enough to accommodate any requirement you may have including safety, chemicals, manufacturing consumables, cutting tools and our speciality – fasteners and assembly products.
The system also offers the additional benefits of:

The CIMS (CI) – Consumable Inventory – provides a solution where the customer takes the responsibility of management and maintenance of your frequently used consumable inventory which are additions to your CIMS KANBAN. Whether these items support production or are a component of your sales inventory these ongoing consumables have an infrequent and less predictable usage pattern and form part of a varied stock module.
Stored within a single static bin the maintenance and reorder of these products is an important aspect of the success of this system. Your local branch supports CIMS (CI) and it is supported by your familiar account manager; and you can maintain the system yourself. The reorder quantity is not fixed and can be adjusted in accordance with your demand via CIMS online dependant on your requirements.
Continued support is provided by your knowledgeable account manager who ensures accurate reorder of inventory and becomes accustomed to your usage requirements. This full support service allows you to reinvest the time savings back into developing your business.

W-Klt® InnoVATIVe STorAGe BInSAs a member of the Würth Industry Service Group, Thomas Warburton has access to many of the innovative developments created around the world. One such solution is the Würth W-KLT® bin. This small load carrier is all at once innovative, flexible, space saving and secure.
Innovative
It has an innovative design with a levered front flap which when closed protects your stock by minimising exposure to dust and debris that is present in harsh manufacturing environments. Used in conjunction with the space saving CIMS modular racking it can reduce exposure to contamination by up to 80% resulting in cleaner components.
Flexible
The flap also performs additional functions like as a visual indicator to which bin is currently in use and which is in reserve. When opened the front of the bin enables easy access to the content and also provides a safe location for the label which is at the heart of the CIMS process.
Space Saving
Shelf and floor space is reduced with a compact bin when not in use and a shelving system tailored to fully accommodate as much product as possible in one location to maximise the effective use of your space. This saving is further increased when Thomas Warburton takes over the responsibility of holding your reserve stock and further freeing up your warehouse.
Secure
Safe transport is ensured with a closed front and interlocking bins securely enclosing the product and reducing the likelihood of spillage and cross contamination during transport. Even with different bin sizes each interlocks with the other in the series to provide a secure environment for safe transportation.

SCANNING PROCESS Each bin has a unique bar code which identifies that bin and product to a specific
customer. Within a KANBAN setup a product with two bins has two unique bar codes so that the rotation cycle can be monitored. Once usage trends are established the bin quantity can be adjusted should the cycle rate exceed a supply requirement.
The scanning process saves time with the reduction in administrative tasks required to generate an order.
The Scanning Process:

C–pArt mAnAgement THere IS A SIMPler WAY
Typically the time requirements for the procurement of c-parts occupies a greater proportion in relation to their value. These low value items which are required in high volumes are often sourced from multiple suppliers and each require a purchase order, separate invoice to be paid and soon multiply to increase the commitment to source and achieve value for money. Stock needs to be stored to accommodate your manufacturing fluctuations and the consistency of product from numerous suppliers has ramifications for the smooth running of your production. To many involved in purchasing these items it is a chore they would rather avoid.
The typical characteristics of c-parts are:
• Secondarysignificancetothefinishedproduct• Increasedprocurementcostsinrelationtotheitemsvalue• Requiredinvariousconfigurationswithcomplexdifferences• Calculatedaspartofmaterialoverheadcostsduetotheinabilityofcapturingthetruecost• Relativelowvalue• Purchasedandstoredinbulk.
