that Amadeo Pietro Giannini the founder of the Bank of America andfondly known as Americas banker was through his banks the first tooffer home mortgages, auto loans and instal lment credit? Also, that hewas the first to offer his employees profit sharing and stock ownershipplans?
that Giannini and the Bank of America withstood the GreatDepression intact and was instrumental in funding the survival of largeindustrial and agricultural interests as well as the movie industrys UnitedArtists, Walt Disney and even the Golden Gate Bridge which would not
have been built when it was were it not for Gianninis civic and regionalfarsightedness in funding the bridges construction.
that Giannini said he didnt want to be rich. His philosophy was thata man didnt own his fortune, his fortune owned him. To him he didntsee money as the worlds greatest resource; it was people that he saw asthe greatest commodity.
that Giannini did not usually take a sa lary. At one time his boardof directors voted him a $1,500,000.00 bonus which he immediatelydonated to charity. He used most of his money to start charitablefoundations. At his death in 1949 his estate was valued at a modest$500,000.00.

WESTFEST2014
Remember the little town of West on I-35 as you head south, before Waco? West celebrates its Czech heritage every year with a three-day festival on LaDay weekend. A year ago last spring the town suffered a terrible tragedy when a fertilizer plant exploded and caused the death of several volunteer firemmuch suffering, and loss of homes. The town did not give up but is rebuilding and continued its festival both last year and this past Labor Day weekendAugust 30 and 31.
Many dance groups representing various cultures were invited to perform and received a fee, as did our I Colori Italiani and I Piccoli Colori, who returneWestfest after a lapse of several years. Members who per formed include Bill Lombardi, Frank DeSimone, Andrew Chobany, Carrie Harris, Maria Chob
and Anna Battaglia, who is studying in Italy and was home for the summer. Children dancing included Lauren Lee, Alyssa Calo, Elizabeth Bushey, anShanna Miletta. Spotted in the audience was former dancer Bryan Pettersen and his family and also ICD friend, David Monk. A person from Austin iaudience chatted after the show about how much she enjoyed our dances and recollected similar dances she had seen in Italy.
Not only was there dancing but also food booths with Czech specialties such as kolaches and sausage, polka bands for everyone to enjoy, games, and rideThe popular Grammy-award winning band, Brave Combo, is always one of the favorite bands and had the super-huge tent packed with dancing festival
