Admissions Issues re Disabled Students
The Law – it is unlawful to discriminate:-
• In the arrangements made for determining admissions
• In the terms on which it offers to admit the disabled person to the institution
• By refusing or deliberately omitting to accept an application for his or her admission to the institution

Admissions in practice
• Ensure that the application process is accessible – e.g. alternatives to written forms, interviewing, tests
• Can adjustments be made to the admissions criteria?
• Look at each individual case on its merits• Work with the Disability & Dyslexia Service
to look at alternatives

Things to consider• Look at entry criteria to identify potential
barriers• Look at interview practice – are there
barriers, can these be avoided?• Advertise the possibility of adjustments• Encourage disclosure• Be clear about competence standards and
what they mean in practice
