Radicals are the small pieces of a character.

Radicals are combined to make a single character.

Some radicals have independent meanings.

Website containing list of all radicals. Not important now, but interesting. Click here.

Character stroke order.

IN GENERAL, CHARACTERS ARE WRITTEN TOP-LEFT TO BOTTOM-RIGHT!!!

3rd or 4th largest country in the world (depending on whether Taiwan and other regions are included). Behind Russia, Canada, USA.

About 1.35 billion people. Most of population is on the eastern half.

Very diverse climate some mountain areas, deserts, forests, tropical, subarctic

Major rivers: Pearl River, Yangtze River, Yellow River, Songhua River

Mountains: Himalayas in Tibet and Xinjiang. Mount Everest

Geography continued…Major cities:

TIER 1: Beijing (capital), Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen.

TIER 2: Tianjin, Chengdu, Qingdao, Suzhou, Dalian, Ningbo, Xi’An, Shenyang, Nanjing, Xiamen, Haerbin, Hangzhou.

TIER 3: Wuhan, Kunming, Chongqing, Nanchang, Changsha, Urumqi.

22 Provinces, 2 special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau). Hong Kong was a British colony. Macau was a Portuguese colony. Both located on the southern coast of China. Almost like separate countries. Have different governments, economic systems, money, culture. Hong Kong and Macau are both very wealthy places.

Hong Kong is famous for trade, finance, banking, tourism.

Macau is famous for casinos, tourism, entertainment, some trade and finance. It’s like the “Las Vegas of Asia.”
