A. EnglandMain Idea: Conflict arose in England as a

result of the growth of the royal power

Henry II, Common Law, and Conflicts with the ChurchKing Henry II of England, who

ruled from 1154 to 1189, became one of the most powerful European. monarchs

He controlled England and half of what is present day France.

And King Henry set up a whole lot of laws for England.

A. England

King John, the Magna Carta, and ParliamentKing John was the youngest

son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine.

He ruled from 1199 to 1216John in sited that as king , he

had the power to do whatever he wished.

B: France The Captains

Hugh Capet laid then foundations of the French monarchy . His line called the Captain Dynasty ,lasted for more than 300 years.

Hugh eldest son was selected as the next king of France.

Two strong later Captain monarch s were Philip II Augustus and Louis IX . Both monarchs enjoyed long reigns.

B: France The Hundred Years War

In 1337, England invaded Normandy in France , which caused the beginning of the hundred Years War.

A large powerful French army was defeated by a small English army.

As a result of the war , France assumed much of the same territory that it occupies today as a nation.

C: The Holy Roman Empire and SpainThe Holy Roman Empire

Charlemagne's empire continued in various forms for centuries after his death in 814.

In 962 ,the German King Otto I was crowned emperor by Pope John XII.

Nationalism was slower to develop in Germany and the Holy Roman Empire than in other parts of western Europe.

C: The Holy Roman Empire and SpainChristians Reconquer Spain

By the mid -1260s, many cities Southern had been reclaimed by the christens, including Cordoba Cadiz, and the Muslim capital of Seville. It took the Christians until

1492, however, to capture the Muslim stronghold of Granada. In that same year Ferdinand

and Isabella expelled the Jewish people from Spain.
