Homework: Finish, “What I Learned,” List Started in class in notebook. Read pgs. 7-11 in textbook
Do Now: Write down homework, Open textbook to pg. 6
Update TOC: pg. 20- Chapter 1-Motion Title page Pg. 21- Describing Motion
April 21, 2014- Welcome Back!
What I know:An object is moving when it changes position
Objects move at different speedsThis effects how long it takes for an object to travel a certain distance..
Motion- What do you know about Motion?
Motion- An object is in motion if its distance from another object is changing.
Reference point- is a place or object used for comparison to determine is something is in motion.
An object is in motion if it changes position relative to a reference point.
Describing Motion-Read pg.6
Are students on a bus moving compared to a person standing on the side walk? Why?◦Yes, because the distance between the
students and the person on the sidewalk is changing
Are the students seated on the bus moving compared to the bus? Why?◦No, because the distance between the bus
and the students does not change.
Moving or Not Moving??
If you choose a moving reference point, ◦You may think that you are moving when you are not◦Or that you are moving faster or slower than you really are.
Read over pg. 7 to pg. 8
Why is it important to chose a stationary object as a reference point?
Something I learned about motion Another thing I learned about motion One more thing I learned about motion
What I learned…. (pages 7-9)
Homework: Speed worksheet.
Do Now: Write down homework, Update TOC : pg. 22- Calculating speedOpen textbook to pages 10 & 11: Then Define: all highlighted terms and write the speed equation, on pg. 22
Today I will Calculate an objects speed
April 22, 2014
To measure distance the SI unit used is for length is meter (m).
Motion is compared to a reference point
What I learned…
The distance an object travels per unit of time.
If you know the distance an object travels in a certain amount of time you can calculate the speed
Speed:
Speed = Distance/ Time
What is the Speed of a asteroid traveling 4500km in 6 seconds?
What are two ways to increase this speed?◦Increase the distance◦Decrease the time
