The Four Regions of the U.S.

5% of U.S. landmass Contains 20% of population in US The Northeast has 2 parts:

NEW ENGLAND MID ATLANTIC

Called America’s Gateway, because most European immigrants first settled in this region

Megalopolis: an area where several large cities and surrounding areas grow together.

Nation’s capital, Washington, DC, is in the Northeast Example: Boston to Washington DC is a

Megalopolis – New York = cultural and financial center
