working with parents• Engaging learners in their own learning

Why do we assess? Learners learn best when-

• All aspects of their progress are acknowledged

• They understand clearly what they are trying to learn

• They are given advice on how to improve their learning

• They have opportunities to apply knowledge, understanding and skills in a range of contexts

• They have opportunities to assess their own work against clear criteria

• They can discuss their learning with their teacher, peers and parents

What will reporting look like in the new curriculum?

• Progress will be described in brief qualitative statements

• Progress in learning – knowledge and understanding, skills development and the development of attributes

• Achievement of a curriculum level, either in a part of a curriculum area such as reading, or in a whole curriculum area such as mathematics
