Can the Bible make you a success in life?

• (Rom. 12:10-11) “In love of the brethren be tenderly affectioned one to another; in honor preferring one another; in diligence not slothful; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord”

• Success – “the progressive realization of a worthwhile goal or ideal”

1. Set for yourself a goal of excellence

• (Phil. 3:13-14) “Brethren, I could not myself yet to have laid hold: but one thing I do, forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

• (Phil. 3:13-14) “Brethren, I could not myself yet to have laid hold: but one thing I do, forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Set for yourself a goal of excellence

• Do you really want to be a success?– (Prov. 23:7) “For as he thinks within

himself, so he is…”

“Can’t never could do

anything”

Set for yourself a goal of excellence

• There is power in purpose– (Matt. 6:21) “for where your treasure

is, there your heart will be also.”

2. Put first things first

• (Matt. 6:33) “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

• (Luke 14:25-33) “Now large crowds were going along with Him; and He turned and said to them, "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. "Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. "For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?…

• …"Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him, saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish.‘ "Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to encounter the one coming against him with twenty thousand? "Or else, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. "So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions.”

3. After setting goal, enter into its accomplishment with

enthusiasm

• That’s something lacking today– (Ecc. 9:10) “Whatever your hand finds

to do, do it with all your might…”– (Eph. 6:6) “not in the way of

eyeservice, as men-pleasers; but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;”

• Enthusiasm from two Greek words – “en” + “Theos” = God in us

4. “And then some…”

• (Matt. 5:41) “Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two.”

• “Do common things uncommonly well”

• Picture what Jesus told the Jews about going the second mile

5. W-o-r-k

• An unpopular concept, but if spelled “w-e-l-f-a-r-e” we might have something– (John 9:4) “We must work the works of

Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work.”

• Still room at the top for those not afraid to work

There is an ultimate success that transcends all earthly

success

• "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matt. 16:26)

Tower of London

• “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he that does not believe shall be condemned” (Mark 16:16)

If you reject the Lord’s invitation, what will you gain?

"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole

world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a

man give in exchange for his soul?”
