Many people are still living

in extreme poverty - often

without electricity or

running water.

• Orphanages

• Childrens Homes

• Hospitals

• Families.

All age groups, including teenagers, have welcomed the boxes.

Disadvantaged children may never have received a gift before.

Reporter Helen Bell saw first hand the impact these gifts had on the people of Romania after spending four days there two years ago on the trail of the boxes. "I was touched by their disbelief at

receiving such a gift. The appeal truly makes a difference to these

children; the delight on their faces was obvious."

Items we take for granted in our daily lives can make a huge difference to

the poor families there.

Liviu Statache, from Rotary Shoebox Romania, said:

“It's so important that they at least know someone is thinking of them. It's a drop of

happiness."

What canwe do?

• Take home a “shoe-box”.

• Fill it with goodies.

• Label it.

• Return it to school.
