Cabin in the Woods Campaign

Museums of Mississauga

At one point in time, the log cabin was the most common building in what is now Mississauga….. … but they are very rare today!

Boy Scout Log Cabin located at 21 Front Street

originally built near Mono Mills, as early as the 1830s ??

A Centennial Project….

• moved to current location at 21 Front Street in 1967 as a Rover’s Centennial Project

• used by 4th Port Credit Scouts for many years

• more recently used for the “Salmon Hunt”

Original Cabin interior…

Slated for demolition in 2002 Owned by Scouts Canada,

and located on City-owned property, the cabin was in poor repair and slated for demolition in 2002

No viable Port Credit location found, so support grew for idea of moving it to Bradley Museum site

A group of neighbours asked the City to investigate the possibility of saving the cabin….

In June 2003, City Council passed the following recommendation:“That the Community Services Department in

association with Ron Lenyk, Publisher of Mississauga News and the Museums Joint Fundraising Committee, be directed to proceed with the fundraising campaign to relocate the Port Credit Log Cabin to the Bradley Museum site.”

The Cabin in the Woods CampaignThe former Bradley Museums Advisory Board and the Friends of the Museums of Mississauga’s Log Cabin Task Force have worked with the Fundraising Committee to successfully raise all the funding and donated goods and services needed to move and restore the cabin.
