BRIGHTON NATIONAL SPEED TRIALS, 1977
Message from The Worshipful The Mayor of Brighton.Councillor Mrs. Hilary Somerville
Brighton is proud that the Speed Trials which bear the nameof our town have the distinction of being tbe oldest motor sportingevent in the Britisb Calendar and that they are still being heldon the site, the only public road open for motor racing in Britain, originally prepared for them over seventy years ago. It is withparticular pleasure, therefore, that I send greetings to everyone whowill be visiting Brighton on Saturday, 10th September, in order tobe present at the 1977 Trials. This annual event is an invariablesource of interest and enjoyment for participants and spectatorsalike for each year it attracts an exciting list of entrants. To myregret and due to civic commitments abroad on that day I shall beprevented from attending in person. It is my hope, however, thatthe weather will be favourable and that everyone will have athoroughly happy and interesting day.
HILARY P. SOMERVILLE,Mayor.

THE MOTOR-CYCLES
The Incorporated Sprint Organisation (ISO) are again proudto be co-operating with the Brighton and Hove Motor Club inorganising the motor-cycle entry. The Brighton course itself presents.nore than just the challenge of time and speed, as riding abilityand handling are at a premium due to the narrowness of the Drive
Tony Weeden who is the current holder of the Motor-Cyclecourse record at 18.96 set back in '74 on his incredible super-charged 500 c.c. Triumpb will, if the conditions are right, un-doubtedly take a hard crack at regaining the outright courserecords for the bikes. Tony, one of Europe's foremost Drag racingstars, is guaranteed to provide plenty of excitement in any event.
Also in the programme many old favourites are on showfrom the two very quick "Duggies" of Ken Halls and PhilManzano, vintage and post vintage machines from the late 'twentiesand early 'thirties. We have a very big entry of the current rangeof "Super bikes", and we can expect these road machines to runtimes that only just a few years ago would have probably takenthe fastest time of day.
ISO on behalf of all the competitors hope that everyone willenjoy this year's speed trial and hope that the motor-cycles willprovide you all with both interest, entertainment. and excitement.

After250years it's about time we made a new cigarette. No one can accuse us of rushing things.Fribourg and Treyer opened their shop at 34 Haymarket,
London as long ago as 1720.Yet only now is a cigarette bearing the Fribourg & Treyer
name being introduced throughout the country. And if we are slow to introduce new products it's because
we believe not all developments are for the better; The quality of goods made by the
Partners was established in an age whenexcellence was the only standard. Our new International Cigaretteis made to that same standard.
That is a real benefitbestowed by the past.
