Adults head indoors for soccer . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4-5Kids shouldn’t have all the fun. That’s why Sports 21 launched the Adult Indoor Soccer League. Featuring ap-proximately 160 players in the fall season, the league plays its games on Sunday mornings and afternoons at the state-of-the-art indoor soccer field at the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha. Photos worth a thousand words . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7-16 Coaches, friends, fans, parents and other family members have contributed striking action photos to Boys & Girls Club of Keno-sha @Play, and many of them can be seen in this edition of the weekly digital magazine. Images include athletic events con-tested on football fields, as well as soccer and lacrosse action on the state-of-the-art field within the new Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha building on 52nd Street. Performances for the ages . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 18-19 Everyone who participated in CYC football during the 2011 season can be proud of their efforts, including those unsung heroes who made tackles and opened holes for running backs with their blocking. Among those whose accomplishments are under the spotlight in this edition of Boys & Girls Club of Keno-sha @Play are Frank Garcia and Tristan Jass of the Broncos.

New indoor soccer league allows adults to have as much fun as kids
The sport of soccer was virtually non-existent in the United States some 40 or 50 years ago. Its growth has swept through the youth level with a fury and has expanded up to the high schools, which imple-mented programs late last century. Plus, you’ll find plenty of creditable soccer clubs in and around the Kenosha area which serve youth.
But what happens when these young soccer players are finished with high school? Many who love the game are not skilled enough to play at the collegiate level, but even for those who are, college soccer is most likely the end of the line in terms of playing the game they grew up with. Indoor soccer may not be an exact replication of the much more heralded outdoor game, but the indoor version of the world’s most popular sport has become the perfect fit for those who now have the opportunity to suit up once again.
Sports 21 is helping to advance indoor soccer for adults on the Kenosha landscape. A product of the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha, Sports 21 offers an indoor soccer league for adults. Current players range from upperclassmen in high school through age 60, and they are having a blast.
The league was able to come to-gether due to the new state-of-the-art facility at the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha, located at 1330 52nd St. A total of 16 teams compete ev-ery Sunday morning and afternoon.
Evidence of soccer-hungry adults in Kenosha surfaced. The league was put together in only seven days prior to the first game date.
“There was a huge need for this,” explained the league’s administra-tor, Oscar Toscano. “During the next registration, we expect it to be even stronger because we will have more than seven days to put it together.”
The Boys & Girls Club of Keno-sha strives to find a wide demo-graphic in its programs. The new Sports 21 adult soccer league has roughly 160 participants, all men, many of whom are Hispanic. Sports 21 is looking to expand to include women in the very near future. A registration period, going on this week, is open to all those wishing to play in the winter session.
Teams will play in approximately 25 games spanning the fall and win-ter seasons. There are three defined seasons. The fall season runs from early October to early November,

the winter campaign is con-ducted from mid-November to early February and the spring season runs from mid-February to April.
Those who step on the indoor field come from out-side Kenosha as well. Many players reside in neighbor-ing Waukegan and Racine.
“One of the reasons people come from other areas is because the facility is just incredible,” reasoned Toscano. “People were looking for places to play and they found this. They are really enjoying them-selves.”
Locally, the RecPlex used to operate indoor soccer leagues; however, those leagues were confined to a basketball court, on a
wooden surface. The Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha facility can accommodate more teams by extending its Sunday game times or expanding to a whole differ-ent day if need be.
Most of the teams have been together for years, playing outside of Kenosha in the seven-on-seven in-door format. Still, individu-als can find their way onto a team simply by showing up at the facility on game day, or contacting Jeff Reget at 262-818-1502. Teams in the league range from those recreational in nature to those that are highly com-petitive.
Action gets fast and furious on Sundays.
