1The goal of the project is to find the tools in understanding how to come up with a method for finding DC’s neighborhood boundaries.

2I took these instructions, and instead of asking anyone on the streets of DC, I took the random out by target-ing a specific neighborhood place where locals would be. I chose the local DC’s Safeway’s to conduct my research. I asked 60 different people at the 15 Safeways throughout DC.

By targeting the local grocery stores, I would take the random out by targeting locals who were aware of their surrounding.

15 Different Safeways

3My first area of research was the Georgetown’s “Social Safeway” I firstly sat down in the cafeteria area, analyz-ing the people shopping, and I began targeting people who had full shop-ping carts. I thought that if the shop-ping carts were full, there was a better chance they lived nearby.

I asked 60 people at 15 different Safeways

4I then approached the shoppers politely, as if I were lost or a tourist, and I asked them, pinting to the map “Could you possibly tell me where we are.” They marked with my pink pen, where they beleived we were located.

I followed up by asking “If we are in Georgetown, when do we enter Glover Park?” and lastly when do we enter Dupont? If I felt comfortable enough, I asked them their name, and whether they lived in the area.

5Interesting observation, many people used landmarks to define the bound-aries.

I then collected all the information I reteived from my research and defined it in a chart for each neigh-borhood.

AND SO ON.....

I continued the research throughout the entire DC metro area. Most of the people I asked at the Safeways were local residents. Most of these resi-dents were using landmarks as their marker for defining boundaries.
