BMX riding styles

Basicly there are two BMX riding styles:

Race and Freestyle.

I will present you information about Freestyle BMX riding style.

History

There are many diferent opinions

where BMX sport was invented.

But everybody aggrees, that BMX started in

early 70's.

1976-1977

Actually, The beginning of “trick riding”.

Learning tricks, rollbacks, kick-turns,

fakies, etc.

1983 - 1986

BMX freestyle is in its infancy. The ASPA has just started running BMX freestyle contests in skateparks. Bob Haro has the first frameset specifically for BMX Freestyle use. Ron Wilkerson did the first no footed aerial.

1986-1991

Bronze age of BMX freestyle. There were a lot of changes in this period.

Lots of tricks were invented by Haro, Dave Mirra and else.

BMX parts became more adapted for freestyle usage.

1986 - 1991

BMX freestyle became more popular that it was.

Riding substyles were invented

Sponsorship finally began sponsoring freestyle and BMX freestyle climbed into new heights.

1991-2008

Golden age of BMX freestyle. Many updates everywhere. Competitions, skateparks, trails, street spots, tricks invented/found/created.

New age riding BMX freestyle substyles

Street (most popular) Park (very popular) Trails (very popular) Flatland

Park

Skateparks are used by BMXers as well as skateboarders, inline skaters and sometimes scooter-riders.

Trails

Trails are, as the name suggests, lines of

jumps built from dirt (heavily compacted

mud).

Street

Most street riders ride street because of a lack of parks,

trails or dirt jumps in their area, and many

professional riders are employed as street riders for the exposure they can

get through video and magazines, rather than for

(big money) competition results.

Flatland

Flatland BMX occupies a position somewhat removed from the rest of freestyle BMX. People who ride in the above disciplines will generally take part in at least one of the others, but flatlanders tend to only ride flatland.

Ride or die I am an

BMX

rider

too.
