Introduction

• Because life creates stress, tension and anxiety …

We must silence the mind and enter into stillness and conscious

awareness

The Method

• Ujjayi breath and the Relaxation Response.

• Grounding of the body electric.

• Subtle energy activation by• visualization;• clearing and charging the chakras;• contemplative reflection.

Definitions

Wikipedia: Ujjayi breath

• Ujjayi is a diaphragmatic breath which fills the lower belly, rises to the lower rib cage, and finally moves into the upper chest and throat. Inhalation and exhalation are done through the nose.

• The “ocean sound” is created by allowing the glottis to gently vibrate as air passes over it and into the throat.

• As the airway becomes narrower in the throat the flow of air creates a “rustling” sound.

• The length and speed of the breath is controlled by the diaphragm, which is strengthened by this practice.

The Relaxation Response

• The correct use of ujjayi breath activates the Parasympathetic nervous system and hence the Relaxation Response is achieved with a decrease in heart rate, blood pressure, respirations and oxygen consumption, a decrease in the stress hormone cortisol, as well as decreased blood sugar levels and cholesterol.

Grounding

• An electromagnetic field is a physical force field produced by electrically charged objects. This field affects the behavior of other charged objects in its vicinity and extends indefinitely into space.

• Every cell in the body is an electrically charged object.

• The heart and brain operate on electric circuitry producing the electrocardiogram, the electroencephalogram and electromagnetic fields.

• Similarly, the earth produces the north and south magnetic poles by its electric fields.

• “Grounding” connects the body electric to the vast potential of the earth.

Subtle Energy

• Exists in various forms which do not appear within known electromagnetic parameters. Examples are chi and prana.

• This is the energy which flows within the chakra system.

Subtle Energy Body

• Chakras are vortices that integrate subtle energy into the physical body. There are 7 major chakras aligned along the vertical axis of the body.

• The chakras are located at the physical counterparts of the major plexuses of arteries, veins and nerves.

• Each chakras mediates the health and vitality of the organs, tissues, and structures within its territory.

• Key aspects of emotional and mental balance are regulated by this system.

Course Outline

• This module is organized into 7 sections based on the 7 major chakras.

• Over the course of 7 weeks we will ascend the chakra system from the root to the crown experiencing the different qualities and energies of each chakra.

• Each week involves a live one hour on-line session where we meet and briefly discuss each chakra, practice the energy work, focus, rejuvenate, and relax in the state of “no mind”, and achieve clarity and inspiration. The sessions end with a period of Q&A.

With daily practice and commitment at the end of 7 weeks you will:

• be grounded and rooted within your physical body feeling confident and assured that you are safe, protected and provided for;

• be in-tune with your emotional self and true feelings and have direct access to the source of your creativity;

• recognize your “heart sense” and intuitive knowing which always guides and directs you in the right direction to achieve your highest and best;

The Practice

Preparation

• Create time: the online weekly sessions average one hour. For your daily practice start with something that is easily achievable, say 5-10 minutes, and build upon that framework, otherwise it may be that you never start because you cannot “find the time”.

• Create space: find a quiet and safe place where you will not be disturbed. Turn off the phone, close the door and put up the “do not disturb” sign.

• Wear loose and comfortable clothing.

• Sit in a chair with a straight back using cushions or a pillow to maintain an upright spine without strain. Place feet firmly on the ground. Do not cross legs.

• You may get slightly cool and have a dry throat so have a shawl or light blanket close by and a glass of pure, non carbonated water.
