INTRODUCTION

3D-TV is the next major revolution in television.

An overview of automatic 2D-to-3D video. extraction of depth information from

monoscopic images and the generation of stereoscopic images

Techniques to convert 2D-3D: Depth map estimation Depth image based rendering

3D TV

3D video is a natural extension of 2D videoRelease of 3D Chicken Little in 2005 by Disney

rediscovered huge business potential of 3DIn 2010 Avatar ranked $1.1 billion world wide3D theatrical releases generate more revenue

than 2DCapture and to create enough S3D material

with stereoscopic cameras are time consuming as well as expensive.

So it one way to alleviate this difficult problem

3D TV Will be available in a affordable price

Need of 3D generation

Various approaches for 2D-to-3D conversion

3 methods:Manual:shift the pixels horizontally with an

artistically chosen depth valueHuman-assisted:some corrections made

“manually” by an operator Automatic conversion:exploits depth information originated from a single

image or from a stream of images

Stereoscopic

Stereoscopy involves binocular processing of two slightly dissimilar images, that are displayed on 3D displays

Objects are perceived a different depths and outside of the 2D display plane

Increase the visual impact

STEREOSCOPIC GLASSES

Stereoscopic Vision

EXTRACTION OF SCENE DEPTH INFORMATION

We can estimate depth from

Pictorial Cues• Focus/Defocus• Color and Intensity Cues

Motion Cues

Depth Map Estimation

Block-Matching based depth estimation

The motion information can be easily obtained from block matching based estimation method

Blocks are used for analysing motion of object

Current frames are compared with reference frame

2D Video Sequence

Estimated depth map by block matching motion estimation

Hole-Filling

Detect holesFill holes by averaging textures from neighborhood

pixelsLinear interpolation technology

Advantages & Disadvantages

Advantages :

Richer, Lifelike more engaging and entertaining experience than 2D TV

3D TV is increasingly becoming affordable 3D TV offers greater depth of viewing Future technologies would not require

glasses for 3D viewing

Advantages & Disadvantages

Disadvantages : High production and transportation costs of

3D video information Greater 3D experience requires glasses to be

worn while viewing No defined industry standard for 3D

hardware and TV components
