Overview

• December 2006: Aspire/Army agrees to examine potential benefits for Aldershot Garrison from the London 2012 Olympics

• January 2007: Informal consortium formed by Aspire, Army and Rushmoor to submit details to the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games application for pre-Olympic training camps

• June 2007: Aspire engages consultants to assist in this process and focus on training camp usage

• July 16th 2007: BOA makes an informal and confidential visit to consider whether Aldershot should be added to its shortlist of 3 of the UK’s top sports facilities

• September 21st 2007: BOA make formal visit to Aldershot Garrison• November 7th 2007: BOA offers “preferred bidder” status to

Aldershot• November 15th 2007: Follow-up meeting with the BOA to clarify

usage

The BOA opportunity and the commitment required• The BOA are proposing a unique

partnership with the Army, Aspire and Rushmoor Council to deliver mutual benefit to all parties in the run up to the Olympic Games

• The commitment required from Aldershot Garrison is to host the BOA’s pre-Olympic training camp in 2012

• Between 2008 and 2012: additional opportunities exist to extend the relationship to include additional usage by the BOA and National Governing bodies, in accordance with contract and subject to capacity.

Potential additional opportunities

• Up to 4 team leader and athlete conferences per year of between 35 and 100 people

• Small summer (Jul – Aug) preparation camps in 2009 and 2010 with a larger preparation camp in 2011. Approximately 100 persons (maximum of 168)

• Opportunity to attract National Governing Bodies of Sport (replicating the Synchronised Swimming model in one or more suitable sports at our discretion)

sport training amongst Britain’s most famous sportsmen and women and providing sparring partners for British Olympic team sports e.g Boxing

• Potential improvements to Army Sports and other facilities as a result of the British Olympic Association team usage

• Closer relationship for the Army Sports Control Board with the BOA
