• The conclusion should bring your argument home by– Leaving the reader feeling that your discussion is

over– Giving the reader something to think about

• The conclusion should match the introduction in terms of – the ideas presented – the argument put forward

• Restate the main argument • Reiterate the most important points and

evidence• The challenge – To reiterate the arguments in a fresh way

• Depending on the type of discussion, additional elements may include– recommendations for future action – speculations on future trends– implications and/or consequences– suggestions for further research or discussion

• What doesn’t go in the conclusion:– New information, new ideas, new arguments• These should have been addressed in the body of the

discussion

– Quotes• these should have been used in the main body of the

discussion

• Begin with a sentence referring to the main subject that was discussed in the body in the essay– You could paraphrase the question

• Use words or phrases that signal you are ending the discussion

• Give the reader something to think about: – As health information networks expand to
