Seventy-eight days have passed since one of Tim McDonnell’s two sons was hit by a car and

critically injured in New Brunswick, but on Sunday he took a break from his son’s bedside

to bring some happiness to families at the McLaughlin Pentecostal Faith Church. Each day,

the 56-year-old McDonnell and his wife Clare of Holmdel take turns sitting by the hospital bed of

their 20-year-old son Tim, a junior at Rutgers who suffered a traumatic brain injury in October

Christmas dinner to the church’s families. “You can imagine the holidays being pretty tough,”
