comment on their impact on readers.

• In what order should you do the language exam?

• What does Q4 ask you to do?• What is the best strategy for structuring your

answer to the 8 and 12 mark questions?

Section A

1. Information retrieval2. Inference and deduction(reading between

the lines)3. Understand and interpret information4. Analyse effectiveness of language5. Analyse and compare presentational

features.

Do the exam in this order:• Section B first.– Q7 first. 35 minutes, 24 marks– Q6 next. 25 minutes, 16 marks

• Section A second.– Q5 first. 15 minutes, 12 marks. PQA– Q4 second. 15 minutes, 12 marks. PQA– Q3 third. 10 minutes, 8 marks. PQA– Q1 and 2 last. 10 minutes, each worth 4 marks.

Task 2• Read over the “bling” article.• Complete a PAF assessment:

– What is the purpose?– Who is the audience?– What format is the text?

• ANNOTATE YOUR TEXT LIKE THIS:1. Find example of language device which helps have the desired

effect on the reader (e.g. it persuades them/entertains them etc)

2. Underline/highlight the language device.3. Label what the device is, e.g. pun, emotive language, alliteration

etc.4. Jot down the effect on the reader.5. Repeat steps 1-4 again.

-Play on words-Creates a catchy heading and draws readers in with a silly joke

-Imperative verb- tells the reader what to do, rather than asking them. Makes it sound like an order.

Task 3

• Q4: How does the writer of the Centrepoint text use language to:– persuade the reader to sponsor a room and– Inform readers about Centrepoint services?

• 15 minutes• 12 marks
