Draw and Sequence Cards

Objective

Students will be able to sequence events in the story “Slowly, Slowly, Slowly,” said

the Sloth, in order to recount events and details in the story.

ELA-Literacy/RL K.1, K.2, K.3, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3

Procedure

Read the story “Slowly, Slowly, Slowly,” said the Sloth by Eric Carle as a class.

Cut out and mix up the story event cards. Have the students put the events in

order, then illustrate the events that happened in the story.

This can be done individually or as a group.

Model how to do this activity as necessary for your students.

When the story boards are complete, discuss with the students what events

happened in the story.

Extension

For more advance students provide the blank sequencing cards where they must

write down what events happened.

Lesson Plan

Objective

Students will be able to write about what the differences and similarities sloths

have to other animals in the book.

Standards

ELA-Literacy/W K.2, K.7, K.8, 1.2, 1.7, 1.8, 2.2, 2.7, 2.8

Procedure

Share the Facts provided about sloths, anteaters, and howler monkeys with the

students.

Brainstorm with the students ideas about how the sloth and anteater and the

same and how they are different.

Have the students fill out their venn diagram with key phrases to help them

remember the idea.

The students will then write about how the sloth and anteater are the same and

different and write descriptions of each animal.

Repeat the procedure for sloths and howler monkeys.

Extension

Have the students do their own research on sloths, anteaters, howler monkeys.

Sleep 20 hours a day.

Look like monkeys.

Are 2 – 2 ½ feet long.
