1. CANDOR CONDUIT: THESIS PROJECT - ADVISOR: PETER ZELLNER_SEPTEMBER 2012
My thesis is about the experience of circulation and movement in a completely accessibly civic building, a new public library for the civic center of Los
Angeles. The area surrounding the site, with the exception of the soon opening Grand park, is almost completely inaccessible to the public, the
transparency of this library is a directly response to the inaccessibility of the surrounding area and of the modern civic building in general. The mecha-
nism for this transparency and accessibility is the circulation. I studied the way living (people) and non-living (books, information, electricity, etc) forms
move and designed the experience of the building based on how it will be used, and created a space where everything can not only move freely but
also be accessed by all. The user would have an experience where they could basically choose their own adventure, they could move through all of
the building and see much of the city from inside of it, or they could go directly to the use they came for.
2. LOS ANGELES FLOWER MARKET: 3GB VERTICAL STUDIO - INSTRUCTOR: MICHEL ROJKIND_SPRING 2012
The project was to design a new flower market in Los Angeles’s flower district. My goal was to design a building which from the exterior was quite
massive and on the interior was very open. This openness would extend vertically from the market, located at street level and accessible from all
surrounding streets, up through the other programs in the building and would be on a gradient with a heavier more stacked program distribution on
the 8th street side and total openness on the 7th street side. This internal distribution worked not only functionally to support the skin, and cantilevering
program, it created an experience that radiated from the market itself.
3. HUB LA: 3GA VERTICAL STUDIO - INSTRUCTOR: MICHAEL ROTUNDI_SUMMER 2011
The HUB LA, located in Downtown Los Angeles at 6th and Main st., would be a place where young professionals, predominantly in creative genres,
could go to both work and display their creativity. This studio provided the opportunity to create the program and overall ideals for the project. The
notion of a wide range of creative people working together is what got me excited about this project. A diagram of the programmatic uses and possi-
bilities was the driver of this project, essentially I attempted to create the building from the diagram, meaning that I used the diagram to inform the
circulation of the building and eventually its physical form. I began to think of a type of circulation which could facilitate these connections in both a
physical and visual manner, giving me the circulation which loops around the building and connects each level to the one directly above and below it,
but also facilitates connections and unlikely encounters.
4. DESIGN DEVELOPMENT: APPLIED STUDIES_SPRING 2011
In the Design Development class I worked in a group with 2 other students to take a previous studio project and create a DD set for the project. The
work I have included is from a portion of the set that I worked on. My groups DD set was selected to be submitted in the Spring 2012 SCI-Arc accredi-
tation review.
5. HIVE 1000: 2GB CORE STUDIO - INSTUCTOR: JOE DAY_SPRING 2011
HIVE1000, was a housing project for approximately 1000 young artists and students in New York City. My strategy was to articulate the units them-
selves and move from the unit to a larger, group specific bar or “tetromino” which would then inter-lock to form the building mass using the circulation ,
which wove between and within the units, as a crucial driver. Circulation informed my decision as to where and how the tetronimo parts would fit
together. This project was selected to be displayed in the SCI-Arc gallery for the schools Spring 2012 accreditation review.

I imagine a design that allows everyone access to all of the amenities but also allowsthe tenants who use certain things
