Welcome to Ms. Brock’s Animal Adventure!

We have been reading about animals lately, so lets find out a little more

about them!

What are the different categories of animals?

• Mammals

• Reptiles

• Birds

• Amphibians

• Fish

What makes a mammal a mammal?

• Most baby mammals grow inside their mother until they are born.

• Mammal babies drink milk from their mothers until they are old enough to eat other food.

• Mammals are warm-blooded, which means that they can make their own body heat even when it is cold outside.

What are some of the physical characteristics of mammals?

• Ears that stick out

What makes a reptile a reptile?

• Reptiles usually lay eggs, and the babies then grow inside the egg until they are ready to come out.

• Cold-blooded animals, like reptiles become hotter and colder, depending on the temperature outside. When it is cold outside, these animals are usually cold. When it is warm outside, these animals are warm to!

What are some of the physical characteristics of a reptile?

• Cannot see their ears

What makes a bird a bird?

• Birds also lay eggs, with a very hard outer shell. Birds generally lay 1 to 17 eggs at a time

• Like mammals, birds are warm blooded.

What are some of the physical characteristics of a bird?

What makes a amphibian a amphibian?

• Amphibians lay thousands and sometimes millions of small, soft eggs, and they lay them in the water! The eggs are jelly-like.

• Amphibians are also cold blooded like reptiles.

What are some of the physical characteristics of amphibians?

• 4 legs or no legs!

• Webbed feet

• Moist, smooth skin (no fur!)

What kind of animal can you think of that is an amphibian? Think about one that starts off in the water and lives on

land when they get older…

• Think of a tadpole turning into a frog!!

What makes a fish a fish?

• Fish lay many manyeggs in the water-sometimes even millions of tiny eggs!

• Fish are cold blooded, like reptiles and amphibians.

What are some of the physical characteristics of a fish?
